Well this trip happened over the summer of 2006. I have no pics of the actual flights but I do have nice treats with videos (no audio, sorry) of landings and take-offs. I think I could post pictures of Mexico City for all you guys who want to visit.
I usually get pretty excited about trips but this one happened about a week after I returned from Mexico so I still was pretty tired of flying and what not (the trip report for that trip will come as soon as I get the pictures from my old computer). Well anyways, here we go.

PDX-MEX (connecting in GDL)
Mexicana de Aviacion
Airbus A319

The daily flight with service to Meixico City is a red eye leaving at 23:59 arriving at 6:25 to Guadalajara and arriving at Mexico City at 9:10. We left our hometown of Eugene and drove up to Portland which is about two hours away. We arrived at Portland International Airport at 21:30. I always love driving down NE Airport Way because you get a great view of the entire airport. If you visit PDX's website, you get to see some great pictures of both the outside and inside of this ariport which won Best US Airport by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler 2006. http://www.flypdx.com/ Well we went to the Mexicana check in area and saw that we were the last passengers of this flight (which is the only flight of Mexicana's that operates from PDX) to arrive at the queue. Most of the passengers in this flight are immigrants that go to visit family so their luggage consisted mainly of American toys as gifts or clothes packed neatly in industrial boxes of soap tied with rope around all sides. It's a charming sight really. There was a lady from Mexicana announcing around the line that she is handing out tags for checked baggage. When she approached us, my mom recognized her as the lady that had helped my brother and I make it to Mexico City a year an a half ago after we missed our flight on Spring Break. (YVR-MEX long, great, fun story I might write about later but no camera so no pictures). She also recognized us and she joked with us a little about forgetting our passports again.  Wink Check in was quick but since we were the last, our seating arraingement was all over the aircraft. We walked over to the security area and flew past it since there were like four other flights remaining for the night. We walked over to the gate in PDX's very small international area (NW airlines flies to NRT, LH flies to FRA, Mexicana to MEX). We were an entire hour early so we just sat and waited in front of the window to wait for our aircraft. It was fun to peer out the window and see a Hawaiian Airlines 767 taxi out, an Alaskan Airlines 737 arrive, and a Delta 767 from ATL arrive. Finally I see our 319 being towed to the gate. Later, the crew arrived, had a small meeting and started their business. I asked my mom if she recognized anyone as she worked for Mexicana for 11 years, she said maybe one of the flight attendants. Well boarding was called and we were in the third section so by the time we actually were called, most of the overhead compartments were taken. I walked with my family down the jetway and just before boarding I patted the side of the aircraft. This is a ritual I do everytime I fly and if anyone out there has some sort of ritual or habit or special accesory they wear when travelling please share! Well I found my seat 19B and my brother took his 19A. I'm always vexed because I usually book the family's tickets through the web and I use the seat pinpointer to pick seats. The site says they can't guarantee the airline will assign the seats but they forward the request. I always put myself in a window seat but it's always my brother who gets it!  Confused My parents say three rows down on the E and F seats. I was disappointed to see this A319 was one of the older ones without IFE (not even audio!) I kinda guessed that since almost eveyone in the flight would sleep it through, they wouldn't bother showing movies or what not. When the head F/A did the final check ups, my mom asked her if she was with the airline in 1987 (last year my mom worked for them). It turns out my mom had "mentored " her in one of her first flights just as my mom was getting ready to resign because of my newborn older brother. We pushed back, and taxied on to 10L I think (I'm not the best with all the technical stuff). We took off and headed south for GDL. After the captain turned the seatbelt sign off the F/A my mom had talked to went and talked with my mom and dad. It turns out she was offering my mom and dad two first class empty seats! I protested inside me as my mom waved bye to me walking towards the front. She gave me a "sucks to be you!" look and that was the last I saw of them. Grrrr!  Angry The crew handed out a Midnight snack that consisted of a turkey ham sandwich with the best bread I have ever had, a drink, and potato chips. After that it was night-night and everyone fell asleep. I usually can't sleep during flights and it doesn't bug me but something just knocked me out for the entire flight. I was only interrupted briefly when my dad woke me to ask if I wanted to use his laptop. I said no but my brother did and so the bright light of the laptop made it that much harder to fall back asleep. I woke up to the twilight of the Mexican dawn. We began our descent into GDL and a cloudy morning awaited us. Landing was smooth and uneventful. We deplaned and were herded towards Immigration. It was slow and bothersome since I had slept (but not really rested) and so I was still stupefied. It took an entire hour and a bit to make it through immigration and back on the aircraft. My parents were back in economy since their "special friend" had checked out in GDL. We taxiied out and took off but I got the window seat since I convinced my brother to switch me for the 50 minute flight. I'll try to post the video later on since I'm having a hard time right now (I'm still new to the site as a member). Well as soon as we reached cruising altitude, we began our descent. Mexico City is one of my favorite cities to land in. It's such a challegne for the pilots and a great view of two volcanoes overshadowing one of the biggest cities in the world is just great. Anyways, we landed in 05R. I have great footage of this but once again, I'll try to post them later. I love this airport but it's such a hassle once you are on the ground. It's the busiest airport in Latin America and yet it has two runways and a single building with not enough gates. You end up stuck in the tarmac for ages (once I sat in the tarmac for two hours and an obnoxious football or soccer team was onboard being annoying as hell). We end up waiting for a movable terminal which basically is a bus that can raise to the height of the aircraft to take you to the actual terminal.
Overall, for a redeye, it was a good flight. I expected more services from Mexicana but since this was my first redeye with them in Y-class then I don't know. By the way, there was a brief service of drinks and snacks between GDL and MEX. They have some good cookie treats!
I hope you guys enjoyed this and so yea... just comment back on this. I'll have the videos posted ASAP.

Here you can see us landing in Mexico City. Notice how as we land in runway 05R there is another airplane taking off from runway 05L. That is the usual traffic pattern in MEX.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words of welcome. I'll soon be traveling to MCO via MDW and I'll make sure to get as much info and pics for that as well.
