I checked in online for both flights the night before.
Well i set off at about 10am. First to Timmies for some breakfast, then hailed a cab.
Arriving at Terminal 1 at about 11:15, i quickly passed through security and set up near Gate 145 to await the Arrival of my stead. I already knew the inbound was about 35 minutes late from Heathrow. I did manage to snag a pic as she taxied towards Gate 173 on E concourse:
After this i wandered off, got a drink, snapped a few pics random planes between T1 and T3... but as 1250 grew near i returned to Gate 141. I watched the unfolding spectacle on the ramp. no fewer than 3 tugs arrived to push the still not present 77W.
Alas 1250 came and went with no 77W. I finally showed up about 13:05:
GE90 says: mmmm, rampers, slurp munch...
seriously, that is one big ass engine...
boarding started about 13:15...
interesting IFE... Class B IP Addressing weeee!
I took my seat 39K and waited. The aircraft only filled about 30%... and you could tell most people on board were here for the plane, windows were almost all taken, very few aisle seats were. Row 40 was empty, I couldnt tell how full J class was, but atleast 10 people were up there when i boarded. Sorry for the lack of shots of the "private sleeper seats" but my camera didnt like the lighting...
Anyways... We pushed back at 1338, 48 minutes late. Strangely the aircraft made those same whirring sounds as the A330/340 make during engine start and initial taxi, but anyways...
Taxied out to takeoff on Runway 23, nothing ahead of us:
All i can say is wow, the pure power of the takeoff was amazing.
We quickly climbed to FL370, though no annoucement was made to that effect, in fact the flight crew didn't say anything during the whole flight.
I moved back to seat 40K because the window was in a better position.
now... i admit... i have bad luck with IFE systems... and this time was no different, after the system seemed to start the 1st time, half the screens went black and wouldn't load anything. So they reset the system, back to the blue screen:
Ok so to review: News= no, Map= no, Games= no, Music= yes but skippy, TV= yes, Movies= yes but flight too short.
Anyways decent started about 1415
Enjoy, warning: 9mins!
Montreal was a mess, arriving at Gate 50 means going up a level, walk about 50', then back down again, and then through a rabbit warren of hallways... ugh hurry up with the renovating AdeM!
Ok so, since i was already checked in for my next flight i walked around a bit to see what i could see...
AC A330 at gate 51
Swiss landed, A330
Jazz Dashes and CRJs ad nauseum...
Suprisingly an HS.748 appeared, but taxied away out of site before i could get much of a look. Redish stripe up the tail...
Air creebec Dash 8 taxied around, doing taxi test?
Anyways, about 15:30, C-FEJY showed up at Gate 3 for Flight AC419 back to Toronto.

Flight AC419 boarded quickly and on time. Very full flight, there was exactly one open seat, in J. Ahead of mt in row 19 was a family for 4 from Czech Rep ( i think, Czechven Repulika? on passports) That the mother of kept wipeing some form of hand scented oil on her hands every 10 minutes during the flight... lady fer cryin out loud, once a hour is enough for anyone!
Due to my proximity to my seat mate, video of the takeoff was impossible, i had no way to hold the camera steady enough.
But anyways, pushback started 5 minutes early at 1555.
I watched as AC417 with C-FITL took off (late) from 24L.
We taxied to the hold point for Runway 28 and then waited a few minutes. A Delta Connection CRJ-700 taxied passed and out onto 24R/6L and began backtracking, and a few minutes later Lufthansa A340-300 D-AIGH taxied by and up the taxiway towards the departure end of 24R. White waiting for all this to happen the head flight attendant paged my seatmate. Turns out she was on her way to Seattle and had a very tight connection to make in Toronto. She was presented with a USCustoms form... but more on this later. After Lufthansa was clear we lined up and took off on 28 at approx 1608.
Climb was quick and we settled into cruise height of FL340
Now, here we go with the IFE again. The whole left side of the plane= working, ahead of row 19= working... right side aft row 19... not working "service not availalble" and the system wouldnt reset. Niiiiice. Thales system, really nice when it works!
Anyways, the flight was short enough for it not to matter.
Decent started at 1641. About this time my seat mate got moved to J class so she could be off right away.
Now i can take pics, yay!
And here i a rather long video of the arrival. 10mins ! and it goes fuzzy for about 90 seconds... you've been warned so don't complain to me about it!
Arriving Gate 135 at 1655, 5 mins early, C-FITL was back at Gate 141 too
Sat and waited for the plane to empty some, shot a pic of the 767-300 next to us while i waited:
Anyways, hopped a cab and home we go.

Thanks for the report! The plane looks beautiful!
Just curious, so there is no beverage service on the YYZ-YUL flight...

Nice report. From those pictures I must say, what a beautiful airplane! AC seems to have made a very good choice with the 777, not just operationally but from a passenger perspective. Hopefully the IFE issues are just some teething problems that will be worked out soon eough.

Nice report, the 777-300ER does look very good in AC colours, and fits very well with the natural background colour ! Loved that zoomed shot of the GE-90, very impresive engine indeed !
Just one question. What routes are the 777's operating at the moment ?, and as in the case of this one, am I right in saying these domestic flights aren't a permanent route for the 777's ?
Oh, one more actually, will the 777's ever actually operate YYZ-LAX-SYD or is it going to be stuck on YYZ-SYD non-stop permanently ?
Cheers

right now the 777 is flying YYZ-YUL-YYZ-LHR-YYZ everyday.YYZ-LAX-SYD has been cxld for now, YYZ-SYD isnt on the radar as far as i know, though the 777-200LR was rumored to be used on YVR-SYD. AC is planning to use the 77W on YYZ-LHR/FRA/NRT, YVR-NRT/HKG (and by proxy YYZ-YVR most likely) initially last i heard.

Good report & photo's, thanks.
Good luck to AC and their 77W op's, though it seems a pretty large plane for them.

Ahh, thanks for the info. I was getting confused between the 777-300ER and the 777-200LR at AC. I was looking at my latest issue of Airliner World, and they were mentioning that AC was the only airline to fly Canada to Australia non-stop, and I thought they meant the 777-3000ER.

Both variants will be used between Vancouver & Sydney.
The 777-300ER (77W) during high season in Australia & the 777-200LR (77L) during shoulder low season.
Aside from range specifications, the 77L has 109 less seats in Y/C.

i was supposed to fly it twice last week but... On the way from YYZ to YUL, the plane got subbed by a 767. Then on the way back from NYC, flights out of LGA were delayed for winds, and there was no way i would have made my connection on montreal, so the check in person kindly put me through direct through toronto. It was alright, as the flight from LGA to YYZ was on a E175 i believe.
