AZ 153
Airbus A319 I-BIMA
Scheduled departure time 7.25 PM

Buon Giorno! This is a short trip to Milan which I enjoyed a lot. I treated myself with a week end in Milan. I flew Alitalia, never flew with them before. I paid 161 Euros all taxes included for the ticket which I booked through Alitalia's website and I got miles on my Air France account.I arrive at the airport about two hours in advance, check in one luggage, surprised to see that there was nobody on line. I then proceed to the gate, walk around the B Concourse Terminal in BRU before boarding, and finally boarding is announced on time. I had a window seat, don't remember which row but it was something F just behind the wing. Did you ever notice that on all Alitalia aircraft, the titles are written on each wing, in addition to the usual titles on the fuselage? We taxi to RWY 25L for departure. Before our aircraft departed, all flights were assigned RWY 07R for take off and RWY 02 for landing. We take off, turn left to proceed on course to Milan. After leaving Brussels, we quickly reach Namur, after which we reach our cruising altitude, we continue towards Luxemburg, Eastern France, the Alps before starting our descent to Linate. There was a beautiful sunset in France, before reaching the Alps. The in flight service included a drink and a ham sandwich sealed in a box. We land in Linate on RWY 36 some fifteen minutes behind schedule, after a quick taxi to the stand, we are taken by bus to the terminal. I quickly grab my luggage and go to the city. It is very convenient to fly to Linate, if you want go to Milan,b ecause the airport is very close to the city. It takes fifteen minutes by bus, maybe thirty at the most if there is traffic, to reach the center of the city. Malpensa is much farther.

Did you ever visit the Duomo? It is a monument worth visiting if you go to Milan. Also it is a great place to do shopping. And of course don't miss the great parmigiana cheese and pastas.

Airbus A319 I-BIMB
Scheduled departure time 4.55 PM

I arrive at the airport two hours and a half before scheduled departure time, I didn't realize how quickly it would take me to get to Linate. Again, nobody in line for check-in, I was quickly done with this. After clearing the security, I go to the shop and look at all the food products before proceeding to the gate. I had a window seat again, 8F, just near the engine. We leave right on time, taxi to RWY 36 for take off, and we leave. I had a beautiful view of Milan but it was hazy outside and the visibility wasn't too good. But after passing the Alps the weather improved a lot and I had a beautiful view of the Lorraine in France. The in flight service included a drink and a choice of either a sweet cake or a cheese sandwich. I choose the cheese sandwich and a glass of water. The sky was blue above us, crystal clear, there were many contrails but the aircraft were too far away so I wasn't able to identify any of them. After passing Luxemburg, we start our descent, pass by the Liege area before lining up on the localizer for RWY 25L. I thought we were going to land on this runway because it is the one mostly in use for landings, but after passing Leuven I realized we would not land on it! I saw that we were still much too high to land. We were vectored for an unusual approach to RWY 07R, just opposite to 25L. I never had this before. It was great because the sky was clear and I had beautiful views of Brussels. So we touch down on RWY 07R at 6.25 PM right on time. Three minutes later we are at the gate. I leave the aircraft, call my family to let them know I arrived safely, grab my luggage and get on the train to go home.

So this was quite a nice trip. I was quite happy with my trip on Alitalia, not an exceptional service but not bad at all. I have nothing negative to say about Alitalia. I would fly with them again if I go back to Milan for two reasons, one is I can fly direct to LIN (SN flies to MXP only) and the other one is I get miles on Air France since AZ is in Sky Team.

Hi Ben!

Nice report regarding Alitalia and your flights. I also agree with you, Alitalia is not the best but certainly is not the worst...I think these guys are at the same level has a good part of european flag airlines...TP offers mostly the same type of stuff. It's a pitty you didn't get the MD's on your trip...do they still fly one a while to BRU or thats "history"? Because in LIS they mostly fly the A320 but a few days ago they returned with the MD80 and that is also great.
Anyway thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Thanks for your kind comments. As you read in my report, I had an A319 on both the outbound and the return flights, that's what you get when you fly to LIN from BRU. But you will get an MD-80 if you fly AZ to MXP or FCO. From BRU, AZ flies to three airports: LIN, MXP and FCO. So yes, Alitalia still flies the MD-80 to BRU.

I get to fly on a lot of them with American within the United States. I like the A319, nice little Airbus, I was happy to fly on one on this trip.
