TUN-NCE - Tunis Air - Business Class (J)
My ticket was actually an AF ticket but I wished to get the early flight in (the second TUN-NCE flight is late in the afternoon) so I cooked the TU codeshare.
I had checked in online the day before so I knew my seat choice was secure (sequence 001 – 1A ).
I still had to get the actual BP so I made my was to the dedicated F/C TU desks at Carthage Airport which were all but empty.
My nicey 1A BP in hand, I made my way towards the immigration counters which were also devoid of a queue. Security screening was quick and I soon had the TU lounge to myself, which meant a nice hour of Annette browsing and fattening up (as well as a few poachements).
Boredom was late (as usual in TUN) which gave me a chance to shoot the hair craft:
At that point I was convinced that the C cabin on the A319 was the same than the one on the A320 and the A300, which are nothing to write a TR about; i.e no IFE and 70’s style cabin.
I was in for a surprise.
The A319 in question was the most recent aircraft in TU’s fleet, which is an A319LR which normally sees service on the nonstop TUN-DXB route.
Therefore the aircraft is on par with the most recent widebody offerings with the latest in-seat electronics.
The seat before takeoff:
The seat controls:
The 110V powerports (no need for an empowering thingy) :
Unfortunately I did not have my taupe to test these.
Pushback was 10 minutes late; I managed to get a nice shot of one of TU’s A20’s though:
The taxi times were short as we departed from the closest runway.
There was no refreshment served during boarding or taxi and we were soon airborne:
Shortly after transition altitude breakfast was served, which consisted of a small muffin, a croissant, a hot drink (choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate) and a choice of juice (orange, apricot or mango):
Note the PTV size.
The meal in detail :
The meal may seem small but the croissants seemed endless (they passed in the C cabin with the croissants basket three times and refilled the juice glasses and coffee cups).
After breakfast I played with the seat controls but that provoked a loud “rhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa” from the lady sitting behind me. I assumed therefore that the 160 degree recline is rhaaing for the person behind if he/she is still the sitting position.
The seat with the PTV deployed:
The IFE controls:
I then decided to take a little walk though the cabin to see what the Y class looked like. I was surprised to see the whole aircraft was PTV/AVOD equipped (remember we are in an A319 !)
C class overview:
Y class overview:
By and by it was already time to get back to my seat as descent had started (1h20 minutes of fright time only).
Approaching NCE:
Cannes hair port :
On finals :
My foolish camerhaa batteries went pooooooof before landing so I could not document the rest. The landing was however uneventful and the taxi to the gate was very quick. We were parked next to the DL 767-300 (daily JFK fright) and the front door was opened up very quickly. Immigration was a breeze and I was out of the terminal barely 15 mn after the wheels touched.
Score: 17/20
Comments are welcome !

Many thanks,
In particular, I liked the picture of Esterel mountains with their rather unique colours. They can even be seen in the distance from Nice! I have driven along the corniche several times, great scenery there but avoid weekends and the holidays. It's where the Cote d'Azur proper begins.

Breakfast looks indeed a bit poor, although you should be happy to get something to eat these days. But in C, I would expect something more, and more colourful (like some fruits additionally or so). But, all together, it seems that TU is in general doing well for the customer. Quite new aircraft, and the one you had is having a very modern cabin. Nothing to complain about for such a short flight accross the Mediterranean! Thanks...

Hi Will,
Thanks for the great report with nice pictures, cool to read a Tunisair report here, they are pretty rare.
As some others wrote above, the breakfast looks indeed a bit poor for Business Class... rhaaaaa! But the PTVs are very nice, you had luck that you got the A319LR.

Quoting UTA_flyinghigh (Reply 12): Indeed they were. I also forgot to mentionthe safety video was shown once airborne
Oh my... what a violation of aviation safety rules!! Touchwood, if an incident were to happen during take off (over-running of runway, crash after take off etc...) and the authorities were to find out that the safety demo wasn't carried out, TU would have got into very serious trouble.

Hey nice trip report... I was really looking forward to see the interior of these new A319s. Tunisair is using them on routes to DXB, NKC, DKR, BEY, LHR... Really impressed. Hope they will be well maintaned..

Great to see TU is offering a decent service on their puddle-jump flight to NCE!
I guess you were really lucky to get the 319LR, but who cares! You got it
Breakfast is indeed poor, but on a flight just over an hour, you don't even have time to eat a lot more!
Thanks for sharing!

Great trip report! As an ex-resident of Tunisia, I am glad to see such a well documented TR.
I have flown so may times on TU and never had the chance to get the A319LR.
Last summer, I flew from LYS to TUN and because I was one of the first to check-in, I was given a seat in the front section of the plane, the C class. As you mentionned, just a bigger seat than usual. Nothing compared to your experience.
For the breakfast, no big surprise... Tunisians are not really into breakfast. However lunch and dinner served on board TU are always great, whatever the lenght of the flight. Some airlines should take a lesson here.

The A319LR is brand new (TS-IMQ). It was delieverd in April. Tunisair will retrofit all 3 other A319 to A319LR with inflight intertainement and new business class seats. Tunisair wants to expand in the longhaul market using these A319LRs. They will use them in routes to DXB, BEY, JED, BKO, ABJ, DKR and NKC. Tunisair is opening new routes to Bahrain and Kuwait this month. They will be seen also in Europe. LHR sees TS-IMQ every Saturday I think.
Tunisair has 6 A320 with Drop down screens and 6 A320 without. The strange thing is that the A320 without flight entertainement had business class seats and they were used to Business destinations whereas the newer ones were used for Charter or flights to Monastir or Djerba. The product was inconsistent. I hope TU will only use these new A319LR on long haul routes or business routes and not use them everytime they need an airplane. I hope that they will be well maintained.
I have sent Tunisair a mail to ask them to update their website and to promote the A319LR, the new product and the new destinations but nothing has happened. Tunisair is sadly full of incompetent people at all levels and things move slowly.

A good TR. Nice to see PTVs on Y on a A319. Didn't know that TU had PTVs on all classes.

25 ThaiA345: Nice TR, definitely one of the nicest A319 non CJ I have ever seen!
26 Aleksandar: It was really nice trip report. I almost flew TU last summer and, who knows, I might even fix that cosmic mistake this summer. So, it was good to read
27 CF-CPI: Nice report on an airline we don't hear much about. The meal looked lame, but they get high marks for the cabin and seats. This must be a brand new A3
28 AIR MALTA: Hi, Tunisair has 6 old A320s without IFE and 6 new A320s with IFE. So it depend on your luck. But only one of these new A320s is equipped with Busine
29 Avianca: very nice report! but I have to say the breakfast for J is a shame!
