Sounds too good to be true, AF are already selling tickets for LHR-LAX departing in April, the Y fares look dirt cheap but can they sustain offering such ridiculously low fares? Or is it just a initial taster before they bump it up to the £400 mark?
BTW, this is not a codeshare is it? AF's own metal?

Wow!

I get about 40 minutes in a Seneca for that; during which time I might get as far as Gloucester if I'm lucky!

Business-wise I suspect they are doing this to get interest and awareness, and lets face it, even if they do go to £400 I'm sure people will still be willing to pay that to get to LAX!

Are AF just flying LHR-LAX or are they planning other TATL routes from LHR?

Sounds great...but that site seems to only let you book a RT beginning from UK airports and the fares seem to (naturally) be much higher outside of April.

Anyone have any insights?

It seem to have gone up in price already £290

Same dates CDG --LAX on AF 765 Euros = £565

Yes the price does seem to fluctuate, on airnet.co.uk the price sometimes even goes down, albeit for a pounds. But LHR-LAX for £279 was mouth watering, haven't seen a fare that low on a sector that long.
BTW, could the moderators move the thread to civil-aviation, as it would be more appropriate there.

If this one does well I heard they might add another in 2009 to strengthen SkyTeam's Heathrow-USA network. It would likely be a city not served from Heathrow on any SkyTeam airline, so I wouldn't expect JFK-LHR, for example.

Well AF does have an uphill challenge on this flight pushing something that is not very intuitive for the public. An average London'er not Angelino is going to have Air France come to mind if they want to fly between the two cities.

At least DL is marketing the flight also which certainly helps, however I think the jury will be out for a while before we find out if the flight becomes a success or not.

In the mean time, AF offering low rates is just part of the game they must play.

On airnet.co.uk the itinery states AF 60 departing terminal 2 at LHR, i assume the LAX flights plus all AF would move to T4 to join the other skyteam members?

It would seem that the consolidation of SkyTeam airlines in T4 will not be completed before early 2009 ...

Had a quick check and AF are now up to about £320/325 (one week trip with a Saturday night stay), interestingly NZ have very little difference in pricing quoting £330/£335 for the same dates.

They have a special deal until the 4th Feb - £293.00.

Lots of seats in April - I've just booked a week in the sun!

It's an AF B777 in each direction - I wonder where the diversions will go Big grin.
