Have the Moderators decided to expunge the term "Whalejet" from the A.net lexicon of acceptable slang?

I hope not, otherwise they'd also have to ban the likes of Jumbo Jet etc

Why would they? It's an apt name.

Certain posters in the Civil Aviation forum have intimated that they've been "warned" about using this phraseology. It's not clear whether this policy means no mention of large cetaceans whatsoever in reference to the A380. It would be nice to get an official ruling.

I have to agree, just like people bashing Boeing or Airbus all the time... I like the 380, and the "Whalejet" name: a Whale is cute isn't it

I'm starting to like the A380 more and more actually, still looks alot like a whale though.

I've heard a saying that looks doesn't count, it's the heart within that counts. So I looked to the inner beauty of this beast, and I'm starting to like it  Smile

Some aspects of it's exterior I like though, just it's wholeness is quite chubby. But it claims the title as the largest Airliner, so it has to be chubby, right?

'Whalejet' - the A380?

Now there was me thinking you guys might be referrring to the venerable and much respected Douglas A-3 Skywarrior, the original 'Whale'!

The A380 has a looong way to go to reach such a high standard.

However am looking forward to seeing her at Farnborough in a couple of months time.  Smile

Well what's wrong with whalejet? the name perfectly suits that big aircraft.. no offence intended by calling it a whalejet... and again, why is jumbojet permitted then?

The Whalejet is no longer being allowed because too many Airbus Fans/A380 Fans were taking it the wrong way and too many people were trying to use "Whalejet" in a deragatory way. Since users cannot have thicker skin, measures had to be taken to try and calm the masses.

You'll end up on the shelf too.

Jumbojet has been an accepted term since the 747 first flew. I have yet to see Airbus, or any flight mag call the A380 the "Whalejet".

Hey, I wish people had thicker skin, but when people don't...things like this happen.

Wow. Sad. I don't fault the mods for doing what they have to do; but the fact that an apt and benign nickname is now verbotten is freakin pathetic.

If you're offended by that term, get a freakin life and stop being a whiner.  twocents

Preposterous.

Sorry you guys had to go to this extreme because of a handful of whiney-assed kids.

Why, though? Why let the inmates run the asylum? Can't the mods just tell those who are offended that "Whalejet" doesn't meet the criteria of being inflammatory enough to warrant deletion and/or suspension and be done with it? Eventually they'll stop complaining entirely.

A lot of people on this forum also actually use the term "whalejet" in a positive way. Now they have to pay as well?

Yes, unfortunately they have to pay as well now.

As Mike wrote in reply #11, a lot of people were offended by the term "whale jet", they suggested deletion and wrote us complain eMails frequently, thus is the term "whale jet" uncalled for from now on, posts which contain these words will be deleted and frequent use can lead to a suspension.

It saves us mods a lot of work, no more A380 fans get offended, and I am sure that it is no problem to call the plane "A380" or "Airbus A380" or "380" instead of whale jet.

So if I complain enough over something stupid that I think is offensive, it will get banned as well?

If you people concede to these people like limp dicks every time someone claims "offense," there will be a lot less discussion around here.

For a site that uses the "It's Johan's site, he can do what he wants" excuse a lot, this is surprising, and sad.

When many people complain about something that can be easily avoided (here by using "A380/Airbus A380/380" instead of "whale jet"), then we mods can and do ban certain sayings, terms, phrases, references, etc.

I understand the need to ban certain material that is truly offensive or objectionable. It is just that the term "whale jet" is neither, and being offended by it is just silly, immature, and ridiculous.

Okay Patrick, I'm no kiss ass, and I side with the moderators in 99% of the issues here, but this is interesting. I have no dog in the hunt because I don't give a damn really what one calls the A380 . . .

That said: For my edification, can you tell me what is so offensive, or in what context the term Whalejet was used the people decided it was offensive?

From what I read here, from you and Mike, that some people found it offensive, and suggested deletion and that some folks were using WhaleJet in an offensive manner.

I'm no genius, but I've possessed of common sense and a bit of street smarts and I simply can't put together WhaleJet and A380 and find any connection, political, religious, or otherwise that would lead me to believe it is offensive?

No is offended at the JmboJet (B747). The Guppy or the Super-Guppy? What's so damned special about Whalejet and what context was is used that spun someone's panties into a wad?

Thanks . . . . I'll leave this alone once I hear from you or Mike or another Moderator.
