Delta 747 retirement

With UA now set to retire its 747s very soon as their brand new 777-300ERs come into service, this leaves Delta as the last U.S. carrier operating 747s. From what I can tell they had A350s on order but no -1000 models and no 777-300ERs on order. What does Delta plan to replace their 747s with? They ...

Why doesn't ORD get the A380?

I've been wondering about this for some time. Why does Chicago, a world class city, not get any A380s when there is easily enough traffic to accomodate them? Lufthansa, British Airways, and Air France don't fly the A380s into ORD. Yet LAX, DFW, JFK, MIA, SFO, IAH, and IAD all get the A380.

So a propeller has four stages correct? Off, idle, feather, flight mode. My question is what exactly happens during the feathering process...does the engine just speed up rotation or do the propeller blades adjust into a different position? Same thing for flight mode? Thanks.

ATR-72-500 Startup Process

If you've ever watched a video of the ATR-72-500 starting up, you'll notice the left engine gradually spins its way up to running idle, while the right engine immediately goes from off to idle in a second...why is this? I've noticed they can also just run the right engine gradually up to idle. This ...

Is it because of the new A319s and A321s entering the fleet? Is the 757 destined for retirement? Also, why didn't AA order the A320? And why do the A319 and A321 not both have IAE engines instead of just the A321 having them?

You're nuts. American and U.S. Airways will NOT do well as separate companies. They are nothing against Delta and United without this merger. American failed in the form it's in now. There's no reason to expect that to change.

Then I guess my question would be why we have gone down on the amounts of people and cargo that can be transported across the Atlantic? At one time, it was largely 747s flying people overseas...now we've downgraded to mostly twin jets that can't carry as many people/cargo.
