Keratoconus vision problem could be a career destroyer, I, myself found out I had it in my early 20's and ended my dream to pursue a pilot career as my eyes were sensitive to wear hard gas permeable contact lenses.

It was a big lump to swallow, but I trained and convinced myself to move on.

So basically my understanding, there was no sign of trouble nor a worry nor out of the ordinary comments made by the co-pilot during the first leg. otherwise the Captain would not dare to leave the cockpit, so this is just either a sudden snap or a really well calculated action?

My imagination led me to think that with recent mass hiring, what if FO is on his/her IOE? How would you all or at least the media react to that especially if not enough MD80 experience in that type of weather and was allowed to land despite the minima which am not sure what Delta's requirements are...
