It is a 747-3B3M Combi, delivered to UTA in 1986, then with Air France until 2007 when it passed to Mahan Air under a Belorussian registration (to bypass sanctions). During its tenure with Mahan it was used both as an all pax and all cargo aircraft. https://www.planespotters.net/airframe/boeing-747...
Jump to postPerhaps not totally relevant...but is this aircraft actually a cargo aircraft or is it just a Combi? It looks like a combi to me and I doubt the Iranians or the Venezuelans have a P-F programme in place. Seems odd that a cargo airline would want what is predominantly a passenger aircraft although I...

Jump to postJust because I haven't seen a post about CY yet, wanted to add my two cents...my last BAC 1-11 trip was on Cyprus Airways from Beirut to Larnaca in 1993. I think the couple 1-11s they had were nearly gone by 1993 and the interiors were...pretty terrible. We sat right at the back where the 2-3 config...
Jump to postBecause of Air India 181/182 in 1985, we learned (sadly) of the need for an intermediate stop (at least at the time) in flying between eastern Canada and India. And in that era, you flew to DEL or BOM, and then transferred. I was a little intrigued by this comment. I am well aware of the tragedy of...
Jump to postThe last Virgin Atlantic A340 scheduled service will arrive into LHR on 1st November 2019, 2 A340’s will be kept on as ‘Spares’ for a further few months, operating select routes on an adhoc basis. Jump to postShame they don't have their A310s any more. Would have been cool to see those exotic birds in the US! 767s will have to do.
Jump to postIf the plane is not airworthy you have to contact the local FSDO to get a ferry permit, I think. Said permit would allow you to fly the aircraft with some less than airworthy condition to the nearest location where it could be fixed. I think that's the procedure...in the US anyway. How you would do ...
Jump to postSounds like EK 407 from MEL back in 2009. Except weight for that flight was underestimated by 100 tones whereas this one was 40 so fortunately danger was averted.

Jump to postI think the a340-500 has got to be one of the prettiest aircraft. I know I'm I'm the minority but still... No you're not. I'm 100% with you. Jump to postThe difference between the 70" door and the 134" door is what exactly...the 70" door allows you to load your choice of LD2 / LD8 containers but the 134" also allows you to carry PAG style 88x125 pallets?

Been on them many times, mostly SR, TK, ME, CY, RJ, MS. RJ was my most recent. Like most anything else, it comes down to the config. I doubt there are any A310s out there that have cutting edge, modern cabins like what you might find in the latest A330s. So you have to compare like to like. And back...

Jump to postBelieve there are two Iraqi 747s at Tozeur, no? A 747-200 and an SP. I wonder what state they are both in. 23k hours is nothing for a 747-200, I hope it'll fly again one day.

Jump to postDepends on how you define profitability. It's not straightforward and you're not going to find it directly on any airline's financials reports. Do we know where SU is pulling these extra 77Ws from, if anywhere? Are they downgrading something else?
Jump to post757 has some pluses and minuses. On the minus side, lower deck is bulk loaded (as far as I know cannot take containers) and the upper deck cannot accommodate full size 96x125 containers (e.g. AMJs / PMCs). Not ideal. On the plus side, a 753 would probably be fairly close to an A310 in cubic capacity...
