The NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy gave a presser late yesterday. Basically, they still aren't sure what the root cause of this was. And she raised a new issue that is under consideration...a very scary scenario for Boeing and the airlines... they will be looking at the possibility of fuselage flexing...

Did you ever get an extra fastener in furniture package? In a few cases yes. More troubling is that twice in the last few years I got the exact number of fasteners - but at least one of them was defective and you could not complete assembly. Twice I have received bent parts (in undamaged packaging)...

There are some bolts that have a potential to be opened on some maintenance issue like the ones that hold the plug to the frame but there are other bolts that have zero reason to ever be opened in any maintenance work and some of the bolts that have been shown to be loose belong in this later categ...

NTSB will very quickly determine who, and when, any work was done on the door plug. Voters will want action far sooner than that. It's the passengers who will be buying the airline tickets that will shape the future; unless the voters decide to massively subsidize this effort (which I do not see). I just don't see it as something that Airbus or Boeing would develop in the next 10-15 years.
