This aircraft is still sitting at the Horizon hangar. I take it can’t go back into service until the investigation is totally complete?
Jump to postUnited’s PDX hangar is having its open house today. It only took three years to repurpose this old ANG hangar. They should’ve just built a new one for cheaper and it would have been finished in 1/4 of the time. Wish I could see that,Is this open to the public, or just invited guests? What aircraft ...

Jump to postThat's not good, but thanks for the response. Any future changes to where international flights are handled will be covered by the new master plan that the Port is working on. Easier said than done, but you would think they could have at least built a walkway the length of the D concourse for inter...

I know it was mentioned on last year's thread but any idea what's up with the UA hangar adjacent to the ANG ramp? In June, someone I met with at QX said it had been delayed because of electrical issues as it had been isolated from the base, and over the summer I had applied to two jobs at United mo...
Jump to postWe still occasionally get some transfer bags here at PDX. We don’t like to run down their bags to the old Skywest hangar where they operate from because you have to go through a security checkpoint on the way back.
Jump to postIt’s crazy they flew a DC-10 to PSP. I worked at PSP in the early 90’s and American had a bunch of igloos left over from their widebody days on the field. They used them for storage at the time.

The Western counter is definitely in the background in one shot.
The United hangar has been one boondoggle after another for the last two years. They should’ve never leased that old ANG hangar. It would of been cheaper to raze it and then build a new one. United does A checks on one RON Airbus. They were suppose to start doing B checks at the new hangar but that’...
Jump to postI don’t see it at Thermal, which is right next to Coachella and Indio, both are growing cities near Palm Springs. Wendover would be good, middle of the desert and have places to stay at the casino hotels. This was where the Enola Gay plane and crew trained before it went to Pacific theater.
Jump to postWho wants to go to Iceland in the winter? The sun rises at 11:00am and sets at 3:00pm.
Jump to postI knew a few folks that worked with both UA and AA years ago. They all seemed to enjoy working for the airline they worked at so i can't really say if one airline was better to work for then the other in my opinion. Airline jobs at one time were very prestigious and i guess Nepotism did not hurt th...
Jump to postAA has been renovating terminal 4 since they moved in. I miss the first addition, when they built the widebody gates where the nose of the plane was feet from the terminal glass.
The HNL-GUM is non rev flight for all the Micronesians that work for United these days. Half of my co-workers come from GUM or TKK. The SFO-MNL will be a non rev flight also. It will probably have 100+ listed every day.
Jump to postpdxav8r wrote:Any word on the UA MX base that was supposed to be at PDX? Dead or alive?
ONT. The new terminal that opened in 1998 should of been one large terminal with a parallel concourse like SNA. I know they had big plans with up to four terminals in the future, but having two terminals pretty far apart isn’t the greatest use of land and manpower. The two terminals are night and da...

Intel has its own fleet and terminals in Hillsboro, OR and San Jose, CA. They have multiple flights a day between the two cities.
Jump to postAlways wondered, is there enough space between A and B terminals to put another terminal ? No. The efficiency of DEN is that both concourses can push while two way traffic is also moving. Widebody gates and international gates seem to already be short even with A west opening. Is DL going to have a...

Jump to postThe Port of Portland has really dropped the ball the last two weather events. I feel they are so busy with the new terminal that they forget their running an airport. If it wasn’t for airlines flying in and out of this airport, there wouldn’t be an airport or new terminal. The last storm that starte...
Jump to postSorry, I meant D1 not B1. The old C concourse gate hold rooms were tiny. The ramps that you had to walk down to the door took a lot of space for seats.
Jump to postBrand new terminal and same old stuffy and way too small baggage claim. It looks like the new gate E1 will be were the north atrium is today. I wonder if gate B1 will be removed because of ramp spacing, B1 always had a weird small hold room.
Jump to postUnited invested close to $400 million into Azul, they own 8% of them.

Jump to postI hope they get kicked out of JFK. They cut their nose off to spite their face. Just another terrible decision by their former CEO back years ago.
Jump to postI like how the United flight kitchen worker said it was really good pay. Seeing how United outsourced their final kitchens to the lowest bidder just recently . I worked alongside three former United flight kitchen chefs back in the 90’s on the ramp after United outsourced them. You went from being t...
Jump to postGates E1 and E5 both could handle a 747. Now the United gates can’t even hold a 757. We will see what the new gates E1 and E2 will look like when the new terminal is complete.
Jump to postNZ has flown a one off PDX-AKL non-stop with a 747-400, the passengers embarked from D. This was a delivery flight & NZ took the keys at PDX. Then operated the non-stop leg to AKL with fare paying passengers, who came home via LAX. Below is a link to an old OAG, showing the PDX & SEA flight...
Jump to postUnited still has an agreement with Boutique, we get transfer bags off our flights and have to run them down to their terminal.
Jump to postKLM connections to the DL AMS-PDX flight are pretty close to impossible. Most of the inbound KLM Euro flights arrive around 9am. That gives you one hour to connect and pass through passport control. A 1PM departure works better for connections.
Jump to postIt’s not just the ground staff at Alaska, it’s all the airlines these days. The newer people just don’t care, it’s just a job for them. Jump to postThis is the first time in many decades that labor has the upper hand in collective bargaining agreements. Lets see how the unions handle it. I know Southwest IAM members turned down their recent agreement. No one wants to start at $15.00 a hour and wait 11 years to top out these days.

I don’t believe anything from the media these days. If you want to continue wearing a mask on a plane, then do it, but majority of the traveling public and airline workers are done with it. https://www.kptv.com/app/2022/04/20/majority-americans-want-masks-travelers-ap-norc-poll/?outputType=apps
Jump to postOAK was a large line station for United with flights to SEA, PDX, HNL, LAX, BUR, ONT, SNA, SAN, DEN, ORD, IAD. The DC-10 maintenance base also. Southwest moving in pretty much killed it for United.

Jump to postI found it odd that Alaska wanted McGee employees to be represented by the IAM when they were created.
