Is it possible to close Manston? I thought it had of the role of being an emergency runway? I've used for an emergency once.

I guessed KLM wouldn't have the muscle to make such an odd route work. It might have worked for a low cost carrier, but even then I'm not so sure.

It's Christmas Day. Of course it should be closed to traffic. If you want to fly to see your girlfriend or family you should fly on either side of that date. Basically, the BAA have never wanted to encourage plane spotters at LHR. If they are opening up some space it must have some commercial gain.

I can't imagine what you can do with Manston. It might be close to London but it is difficult to get to via any transport.

How can they tempt people south of the Thames to use it? If it took some of the cargo flights out of Heathrow that could be a good place to start.
