As of a few years ago, the Air Canada maintenance schedule for Airbus A320 series aircraft was:
A check - 500 hours
C check - 18 months
H check - first one, 7 years, thereafter 5 years.

These intervals have since been increased.

Since "final" is short for "final approach", anyone who defends "finals" is on thin ice.

"Short final" is used to help other pilots spot you, just like saying "late downwind". It's not official, but if you say you're on short final, I'll look near the threshold, not a mile away.

The "vents" just forward of the main wheel doors are exhausts for the air conditioning packs. The APU is located in the tail cone, and exhausts straight out the end of the tail.
