Given the lack of a rail link to Eilat, and the move from ETH to ETM, this move essentially cuts it off for convenient travel. Eilat has never been a decent tourist attraction and now this dump is also hard to get to.

So far it seems that lack of direct connection is nothing but a minor nuisance. Connection flights are plentiful and cheap - most under 5 hours enroute.

From what I've heard this was not a diversion but a scheduled mx by IAI/Bedek plant. The company that brought the a/c into TLV is not SV but a third party.
