One thing I noticed on Delta's website now is that when I pull up the main page the originating airport defaults to PTK (Oakland County International Airport) whereas it never did this in the past. I speculate it is because of all of the Delta VIP movements into and out of the airport but nonetheles...

The A350 arrived at DTW today from ATL! It was / is doing extensive pattern work at CVG both before arriving at DTW and after leaving to head back to ATL. I hope they will through in some domestic revenue runs before the inaugural October 30 run from DTW-NRT. It seems crazy they would not do that in...

It is doing touch and go pattern-work for crew familiarization of the aircraft. Here is a video of it arriving in DTW this morning from ATL and turning around and taking off again a bit later. In both flight tracks pattern work was conducted in CVG --

None of this negates ual777newpaint's point that it's a blow to DL elites. That doesn't mean your point is wrong, but is doesn't make ual777newpaint wrong either. This is a reduction in benefit for elites. Certainly an airline's right to do, but nonetheless a reduction. Not really disagreeing. IMO ...

One neat new development in DTW regards Lufthansa. As of today they are now running the 747-400 on the DTW / FRA run instead of the usual A340-300. The best I remember booking was DTW-LGW-DTW for a trip in February 2004 on Northwest flights 32 and 31, both on DC-10-30s :D The return ticket per person including tax was just over $200 USD, an amazing deal, even then!

Ok I'll say this. DTW is a world-class airport! The McNamara terminal is so nice inside and connecting through DTW is a breeze compared to some of the other major hubs in the country. That being said, long term growth at DTW will depend on moving bodies through the airport at ever increasing numbers...
