Too hard to get it to focus at the tele end. Quality is barely ok for web at those lengths if you nail it. At moderate focal lengths acceptable compared to ther PS cameras. Not good for action.

Depends on what you are shooting and what you want to do with it. If the scene doesn't demand a high dynamic range jpg is adequate. If you want to do lot of edits raw would be better. For aviation stuff jpg should be fine.

Get a D610, it is a better camera IQ wise. D7100 has better AF. If you are only shooting aviation, D7100 may be sufficient.

I have both N and C, I use a 50D (2nd hand) for aviation and D7000 for everything else. Picturewise, i like the Nikon better but body and handling, I like the Canon more. Also, there is no 70-200f4L equivalent for under $600 in Nikon line up which I enjoy with my 50D.
