Re: Southwest nearly hits LGA tower

Criticism isn't about not landing in pretty bad conditions, criticism is about loss of situational awareness and failure to respond to deviation - dangerous deviation some would add. Understood, but it seems to have been definitively concluded already that these guys balled it up, when there’s a ch...

Thanks for all the replies. As usual, this site doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the odd question.

Interesting about no (or very rare) 09L departures. I had been wondering when we’d see that configuration. I will stop waiting :veryhappy:

Heathrow: N or S runway for landings on given day?

London Heathrow LHR/EGLL question: I’ve been watching one of the live streams* of arrivals/departures off 27R/09L and it seems the airport dedicates one runway to landings and the other to takeoffs, but which one is which changes from day to day. So what factors are at play in determining whether th...

Haven’t looked at the weather data in detail (and not just metars but the fine-scale conditions aloft). However, it’s possible that the SW crew got the short stick in the draw and just happened to arrive in the worst conditions of the day in terms of turbulence, windshear, and crosswinds . Would be ...

Hmm, that’s not a piece that just fell off, that’s an actual material fracture. Perhaps the piece came loose and then the force of the airstream did the rest by ripping it off.
