I was reading this article by the pointsguy and wondered whether DTW could see increased connectivity from Spirit with DTW being their 3rd largest operation. https://thepointsguy.com/news/spirit-airlines-connections-florida-las-vegas/ Seemingly with FLL in the Southeast and LAS in the Southwest, Spi...
Jump to postIf/when NK goes bankrupt, I believe DTW could be a prime target as SY already operates in a very similar environment in MSP and so could emulate their business model in DTW.

Jump to postDoes anyone think that the dissolution of the AM/DL JV will adversely affect DTW in the sense that the small-thin auto plant routes (QRO, GDL, MTY) will not be sustainable without the JV? Would AM ever consider serving DTW on its own metal again from MEX? Would DL let AM operate routes into DTW with...
Jump to postAs DTW based passenger, I can definitely agree that DL is strongly limiting their investment in their DTW hub. Not only has DL not reached 2019 levels of passengers; but since the pandemic, it has been on hold more than any other DL hub. One can argue all the externalities (aircraft shortage, pilot ...
Jump to postI'm beginning to book revenue travel again after 12 years in the airline industry. Of course DL offer the most connectivity, but I'm still frustrated and annoyed by their captivity of the DTW market and lack of investment/connectivity in the market. Since the travelling public in DTW is so DL loyal,...
Jump to postWow, LH almost recovering pre-pandemic performance: up 61.3% YTD compared to last year, and down only 3.1% YTD compared to 2019. This may bode well for announcing MUC again. Maybe not… I’m not sure what macroeconomic factors were behind the 2019 MUC announcement. https://www.metroairport.com/sites/...
Jump to postMy point is the WCAA hasn’t taken the time to publicly acknowledge a huge international route debut. It has to be an advocate for all service, not just skyteam, or else it risks the airport looking like typical cronyism. I fully agree with you here. There is no qualitative marketing done by the WCA...
Jump to postI think the DTW-MUC was likely planned to be operated daily and then when LH announced FRA-MSP and MUC-SEA which targets directly at Delta, that Delta felt it had to retaliate. Since the MUC-DTW LH flight wasnt launched, Delta would rather shift resources at JFK to target the LH MUC-JFK flights. But...
Jump to postWCAA website says to contact your airline if your a flying out of the McNamara Terminal. Lol. Delta doesn't even have any travel advisory posted on their website. WCAA passes the buck over to Delta, but Delta HQ in ATL doesn't care or know what's happening in DTW. Nothing on Delta's website feed eit...
Jump to postDoes anyone know why KLM is using concourse E in MSP? Wouldn't they use concourse G along with AF? Or is the MSP website not showing correctly. Does E offer FIS? I'm assuming since Condor and FI fly to Terminal 2 that there are FIS services there as well.
Which Terminal will Aer Lingus be using?
So it looks like we will have 2 B777 on the ground at the Evans terminal tomorrow. The United B772 (my apologies) and now CI1886 B773. It won't be too often that that happens.
Jump to postDoes anyone know why there was a B773ER from UA at D5 today? I can't attach the photo. Also there seems to have been a flight operated by UA express UA3317 ILM-DTW and also UA3321 RIC-DTW.
Jump to postA few visitors in DTW today. Can’t tell where this B777 diverted from as it wasn’t Chicago. I just landed from there. Looks like they pushed Icelandair to D10 which has passengers confused as they are all waiting at D5. https://www.airliners.net/forum/download/file.php?mode=view&id=7621
Jump to postCan anyone confirm if signage to the airport (on roadways for airlines operating at each terminal) as well as as the check-in level of the terminals has the signage updated for the three new airlines that have started service (FI, WS and SY)? From what I saw the other day, signs have not been update...
Jump to postSaga class will have access to the LH lounge. We are staying open longer to accommodate their passengers.
Im excited for all the new airlines beginning service to DTW. Hope the momentum continues.
RJ operates 4x weekly in the summer at very odd departure times (12pm noon) on the outbound. It arrives into DTW at like 8am.
I think RJ can survive if they play it right but they will alway maintain their niche role.
Looks like Turkish coming to DTW. An internal planning document states November 15, 2023 launch date pending aircraft availability (new deliveries). May I ask how you know this? And hasn't the issue the entire time been the delivery of aircraft. Turkish announced it intentions to start flying to De...
Jump to postJust was in the MacNamara tonight and the announcements were definitely still in Japanese and Mandarin. This was around 8:30pm tonight. The airport also seemed sort of busy and I was surprised to see shops closing already.
Jump to postI for one am really pleased to see YQG get some attention. If only Canadian airlines were more proactive in informing the Detroiters of these flights options. DTW until recently did not have non-stop service to YYC nor YVR. Flair is addressing this and I’m hopeful that the US side will be able to su...
Jump to postHaven’t seen anyone post this but it looks like NK AUS is bookable as well as DL BZN for the summer at 1x weekly. I would bet we should see about ~32m pax this year. BZN should be a route flown in the winter too. With Boyne Resorts based in Novi, you would think there would be enough demand to warr...
Jump to postAccording to the post below, TK is really still planning DTW as TKs 13th US destination. Im not sure that is a good omen or not. Apparently TK is waiting for Boeing to deliver 787s. DTW will launch by late Summer early Fall if deliveries are expedited. That seems to lead me to believe a time frame o...

Jump to postDL is pricing DTW-KEF at almost double what Icelandair is. Seems like they are skimming the very top of the market. Jump to postI am getting more and more skeptical that TK will enter DTW this year. They seem to be having trouble ramping up with constant push-backs of internal startup date. Initially TK was planning for Aug 2022, then Dec 2022, then/now March 2023 but likely now looking more like June if they do decide to en...
Jump to postI have also heard that if TK starts IST-DTW that DL will retaliate and launch DTW-IST. Can anyone substantiate this claim o...
Jump to postI'd like to thank everyone for making this thread so interesting and engaging in 2022, and I hope all of you have a safe and happy 2023. Jump to postComparable markets to DTW are not IND, CMH, CLE, CVG or PIT. Those markets are easily 1/2 as large as the DTW metropolitan area. In fact, I imagine that DTW pulls actually a bit from CLE. Markets like SEA, MSP, DEN, PHX, PHL are, imo, more comparable to DTW. I think that is what many posters do not ...
Jump to postThe A346 was the middle sized jet in the LH long haul fleet when we were operating the B744 B748 and A380. Jump to postAnybody have the data source to list the top 40 intercon O&D markets from DTW? I would guess they are all served 1-stop by DL/AF/KL or LH. Jump to postMy airline’s ground handler in DTW was approached by TK for p-freighter 787 services to DTW starting in July. Apparently the aircraft would operate late night hours in DTW. After a few months it would switch to pax service as well. Maybe they do not have enough 787 to operate this for pax service or...
Jump to postI'm happy to see a new international carrier at DTW (it was long overdue) as I believe that the presence of a viable international carrier (not WOW) offering low fares will help stop a lot of leakage to nearby ORD and YYZ. Jump to postI wonder if the ME3 will retaliate in any way? I mean if DL is really targeting the ME3 in their PRs, then I could envision a retaliatory measure that the ME3 start new service to say DTW or lower fares on all O&Ds where DL is going to get feed for the flight.

Jump to postWhat's very impressive is the growth of international travel at DTW, and we're not talking about cross-border Canadian traffic, as nice as they are.
