In the US, airport codes cannot start with N, W, or K. N is reserved for the Navy, W and K are not used to avoid confusion with FCC broadcast call signs. That is why Wichita is ICT, Newark is EWR, and Kansas city is MCI.

The only overlap that FWA has with TOL is Defiance and Napoleon. Those closer to Toledo than Napoleon always use DTW as their non-TOL airport. The overlap between FWA and TOL is much greater than Defiance and Napoleon. I live in southern Michigan, 45 minutes from TOL. DTW is an hour and half. FWA i...

Jump to postOnce the Smith terminal is gone, immediate plans are to relocate the ATC tower there. Mold is apparently a huge issue at the current site. Regarding the ATC tower, much of that is dictated by the FAA as they tend to utilize a standard planning and design across multiple airports. DTW's tower was th...

It really boggles my mind that there are people that would fly from DTW to FLL to connect to a flight to DXB. Just goes to show you how little people know about geography. I for one was surprised to hear that DTW's North terminal carries more passengers than all of IND. I am sure no one is surprised that DTW has more passengers than IND, but the fact the small terminal carries more than IND is the interesting point here. DTW catches a lot of flack on A-net, largely du...
Jump to postAlso, the increased amount of LCC/ULCC service at DTW with the rise of NK in particular likely causes more and more leakage to DTW with the fares/connectivity/nonstop options. If BA does serve the route, they will be docking at the North Terminal, not the MAC.
When AA and BA were approved for their trans- Atlantic joint venture a few years back many speculated that either BA would be back in DTW or AA would fly DTW to LHR with a 757. I for one thought it would happen. But since it has not happened yet, I will not be holding my breath.
