I noticed that, too, and was a bit confused. I'm sure a lot of widebody usage this summer will depend upon whether or not they get the China route authorities.
Jump to postDidn't Continental used to operate a daylight Newark-London Gatwick flight before September 11th?
Jump to postI was at the Honolulu International Airport this past Friday (New Years' Eve) and there was a flight departing for Lihue, Kauai, at around 12:30-ish. Does anyone know if this was a regularly scheduled service, and if so, if it was one of the one-way triangle repositioning flights much like <acronym ...
Jump to postI know that Continental is expanding it's Newark-Amsterdam services by replacing the current daily 777 with a daily 764 and a daily 762. This means that on some days this summer there'll be four daily Continental flights into Amsterdam. A Cleveland flight might be possible, but who knows.
Jump to post694 km is definitely NOT the distance from LHR/FRA to the US.

Jump to postI believe that it stands at 18 777s, 10 767-200ERs, and 16 767-400ERs. No more on order, but there is one unexercised option for a 777.
Jump to postThere seems to be far more outrage within this post than joy at the mention of this new route. Guys, just remember that Continental does its homework, and that it wouldn't be launching EWR-LOS if it didn't think...

Jump to postI've heard that an ad was placed in some Houston-area newspaper calling for Italian and German speaking flight attendants for Continental. Don't know if it's true or not, but this would coincide with their plans to launch flights to Frankfurt, and possibly Rome/Milan, from Houston.

Jump to postDutchjet- I, too, agree that it seems unlikely that Continental will remove its 764/777 flight from the Newark to Santo Domingo flight. That route brings in a ton of money for them in both cargo and pax, as you mentioned, and I was merely mentioning it to emphasize the fact that their widebody fleet...
Jump to postThe article in the Honolulu Advertiser states that the aircraft will feature 35 BF seats and 200 Y. This implies that the route will be flown with a the normal 764, the a/c which is used to fly across the Atlantic, rather than the 76H, whic...
Jump to postAs stated many times over, this is a very bold move for Continental. I suspect that this flight will be codeshared with Northwest, as the latter is a much stronger force in the Hawaii-Japan market, although Continental used to be one, too. Honolulu-Tokyo was dropped by Continental primarily due to a...
Jump to postI'm actually cat-sitting for my neighbors, and for the first two days I went over to their house I noticed that its food and water had not been touched, and that there was nothing left in its litter box. Not to mention the fact that I hadn't even seen the cat with my own two eyes. I got very worried...
Jump to postDoes it look like the 738s with winglets will mainly fly longer-ish routes? I know that the 738s tend to fly longer flights to begin with, but does it make sense for Continental to use the ones with winglets on flights that are long because they are conserving more fuel than they would if they put i...
Jump to postAs far as I know the distances to both airports isn't such a problem. It's the same as London Gatwick and Heathrow. Jump to postUnder different circumstances, I definitely think that it would be a smart move for Continental to start Newark to Dubai flights. But with Emirates' arrival on the route, which they are sure to fight hard to keep theirs for at least the beginning, the lack of available widebodies in their fleet, and...
Jump to postThe more I'm beginning to hear, the more I'm actually starting to believe that it will be Lagos. Jump to postI think that EWR-Prague might be pushing the limits of the 757-200, even with the extended winglets. Jump to postVery interesting. Thank you for the article. It must be recent, as Continental only announced their Q2 earnings this week.

Jump to postI do know that Continental has been making money by flying 757-200s across the Atlantic. Why else would they be flying them? They're a very economical airplane, in addition to them allowing Continental to "beat the competition", as you said, in many parts of Europe. Although it is possible that Cont...
Jump to postIt has been said that Continental will continue with their European expansion for the 2005 summer season. Personally, I'd be surprised if they didn't launch at least one or two new routes next year, from Newark and/or Houston, which is scheduled to have the final stages of its international faciliti...
Jump to postMost of these reductions in aircraft size or in frequency are merely due to the fact that the winter season is a far less busy time for airlines, particularly on longhaul sectors such as the transatlantic market. Jump to postDoes this mean we'll be seeing more Continental Express flights out of LA or other non-hub airports in the future?
Jump to postI think that Continental should seriously consider adding 737-800 flights to Iceland. Icelandair has a monopoly on the US-Iceland market, flying several 757s a day to Boston, Baltimore, New York, Minneapolis, and other cities. I'm sure that with its huge hub at Newark/Liberty, Continental could make...
Jump to postThat actually might be a good route for Continental, as the East Coast has yet to see a nonstop to any of the outer islands, and the traffic is definitely there. Many times have I had to make one or two connections when flying to the Big Island from here in <acronym title="Newark - Liberty Internati...
Jump to postI think that a Houston-Madrid flight would compliment Continental's transatlantic network very well, for numerous reasons: 1.)Houston is in need of some more European destinations from Continental, and Frankfurt, an obvious candidate, already sees service from Lufthansa. Jump to postIs the resumption of second daily Newark-Paris services permanent, or only for the summer season?
Jump to postI was under the impression that the EWR-GRU flights were 767-200ERs year-round.
Jump to postI think that once the new Terminal E in Houston is completed we will definitely see more nonstop flights to Europe. Jump to postThere were very strong rumors floating around this past fall about Continental inaugurating daily nonstop 777 service from their Newark hub to Delhi. Jump to postI, too, agree that Continental will eventually need more widebodies, but am constantly reassured that they're fine for now with their current fleet capacity. Jump to postIf Continental's 777 at Hong Kong continues to have a large rest time, then it would be a wonderful idea to extend the flight to another destination in the Far East. Jump to postI don't think that Rome is the new in'tl route because it's not new at all. Continental operated the second daily flight until 9-11, I believe, but do correct me if I'm wrong.
