LHR is simply a victim of it's own success, it has got too big and is no longer fit for purpose, a horrid airport which I avoid wherever possible, opting to go out of another airport in London/South East and via somewhere else if needs be.

Having BAA operating the airport doesn't help matters.

Silver card holders come under the 'extra custom group' which lets passengers choose their seat at the time of booking (as you have done) and that seat will be held for you and will not become available 24 hours before for online checkin, therefore no other passenger can select your seat.
