I don't think United will outright cancel any orders, but they will likely switch some or all to 8/9s that Boeing can actually build.

It is possible, though very unlikely, that Boeing completely scraps the -10 program.

UA uses the MAX8 on EWR-HDN. While it does not have precisely the same performance issues as EGE (shorter runway and terrain concerns at EGE for engine-out climb) it probably will be the replacement once the 73Gs are gone. My impression is United would intend to go 2x daily on EWR-EGE in the winter ...

Makes me wonder if MCO-LHR could be in the offing, even a winter-seasonal flight targeted at the EU point of sale. United has been temporarily leasing excess slots (IAD, EWR) to other Star partners like OS, SN on a seasonal basis while LHR hasn't fully recovered.

Regarding a South hub - hubs are for connections as well as non-stops. FL hubs should have Carribean and SA routes. A Florida hub to some extent could flow some IAH connection traffic. South Florida hub wouldn't pull much traffic from ATL as connections to SE wouldn't work. TPA seems too far south ...
