Re: Cathay Pacific OAK-SFO diverted to LAX

My question is....if the flight couldn't land in SFO originally, why was OAK a better option. Wouldn't the weather be the basically the same. Granted, maybe winds are less challenging in OAK, but still odd. SFO arrivals were shooting the RNAV GPS 10L which has higher minimums than standard ILS appr...

Re: SFO Landing on the 01's today?

For those asking about the RNAV Visual 01R, it's not a publicly-available chart, but some airlines (e.g., UA) have the approach plate in their Jepps. It's a similar situation as the FMS Bridge Visual 28R which is the most commonly-used approach to 28R when charted visual flight procedures are in use...

I don't have any data, but I've heard the 762 is a beast. Continental’s 767-224ER’s had the highest possible thrust engine possible. I believe it had similar performance to a 752 despite being heavier by a lot. Not similar, better, it was the only aircraft that could make a 752 look underpowered A ...

I’ve never been in a real emergency evacuation, but I once participated in a drill at DL’s training facility. With “smoke” in the cabin trainer and everyone evacuating, it was a chaotic environment, and I found the FA’s shouting commands to be very effective in providing clear, concise instructions.

I've always thought a twin-aisle NMA would be too large - comparable in size to the B788. I've always been an advocate of a large single-aisle jet, something comparable to the B739 or B752. Very curious to see what happens now!
