Re: Air Canada orders 787-10s

During Covid, AC was flying SYD-YYZ some days non stop with a 787 (albeit with cargo rather than pax which was no doubt much lighter). Not sure of the exact sub-variant, but everyone was surprised the distance that they were regularly flying them. They only flew SYD-YYZ non-stop once. It was carryi...

Re: Air Canada orders 787-10s

Indeed there's a cluster of 8 A333's that are 22-24 years old and the rest are newer. Which oddly enough were meant to disappear along with the A340's, but stayed because they are so efficient TATL. I wouldn't bet on anything other than the high-hour A333's leaving the fleet. AC has a history of ru...

Re: Air Canada orders 787-10s

Of the ULH routes, only SYD and DEL would be even a slight challenge for the 789. I expect AC's 789 could make YVR-SYD most days with a full load, while DEL might have some seats blocked more often. But AC won't get rid of the 77L until the extra revenue it enables is less than the extra cost of fl...

One discerning factor, in carrier choice, may well be the carry on allowance. Re: Porter Airlines News and Discussion - 2023

It could very well be Onex’s strategy, unless Air Canada does it first and buys Porter. Given AC's domestic marketshare versus WestJet's, I don't believe an AC takeover would be approved for competitive reasons but Onex might. Given what has happened over the past few months with service disruption...

I believe that scheduled E-2 service begins Feb.1'23 with 4 daily x YYZ-YOW and 4 daily YYZ-YUL. YVR, YYC, YEG and YHZ start later in February. I'm getting email and internet ads relating to this fairly often. I figure they'll need 7 or 8 E-2's to operate the schedule at that point. Where is all th...

AC is smartly moving its fleet and resources to its fortresses to allow next entrants and WestJet to duke it out. I guess if Russia keeps the Boeing/Airbus planes then the Canadian government just came into a couple of AN-124's. Also, it seems like Russia would immediately only be able to fly domestic flights which will set them back many many years.

No, the Max is not dead at AC. We are in the process of installing millions of dollars worth of dual HUD's in each aircraft. All 737 pilots are undergoing HUD training in our two simulators in Toronto as we speak. If we were getting rid of them, I see this as adding little value to the frames, as f...

Why Aren't Taxes/Surcharges Refundable?

Sometimes (especially with landing fees) the fees/taxes are paid based on the number of seats on the aircraft. Thus, it doesn't matter whether you were on the plane or not, the airline is being charged the fees associated with that seat.
