New Home Page Side Topic

I was thnking today that the home page for Airliners should have a general aviation link. Considering that general aviation (private owned aircraft) makes up the vast majority of flight operations, (at least in the U.S.) it is a pretty important aspect of aviation. What are your thoughts?

RE: "How Many Souls?"

I have heard that times the pilots will not count themselves or their crews. When asked how many people are on board they may reply "three" (if it is a small plane). In reality though there is five when the two pilots are counted. Pilots tend to exclude themselves from body counts when asked how man...

Mesa just preys on people that have SJS (Shiny Jet Syndrome). They can undercut prices by useing the knowlage that there is always going to be someone out there who will "sell out" and work for nothing just to "fly a jet". I guess though the demand is there so people take advantage.

[Edited 2...

The drivers seats of a 727 were very loud until a high enough speed was reached and the shock moved aft of the flight deck, which lowered noise significantly.

Has anyone mentioned cost index? Cost index is a value entered into the FMS that calculates the the speeds to be flown. This is dependant on fuel, delays, flight time, specific crew pay, etc. I believe the dispatcher/company assigns this value. Maybe the 777 crew was a bunch of private pilots flying...

The airbag isn't supposed to and won't do anything to help you when you crash into the ground at 300 kts. The real benefit is for the lesser impacts, such as those encountered when a plane runs off the end of the runway. The airbag will prevent you from smashing your face into the seat in front of y...

I did a research paper on them last spring, and it is a pretty cool technology. Unfortunately they're also pretty expensive, especially when you have to outfit an entire airliner. They'll probably do more good in light aircraft, but I'd feel better using an airline that supplied them.
