Has been happening to me for the past 6 weeks, finally found this thread (via Google). I expect this is happening to thousands of people, only a fraction of whom will post here. It makes your site unusable and is very frustrating. You are serving up dodgy ads and it's your responsibility to take own...

Jump to postHi guys, Just spoke to my mum, so a bit more information to the above: - weather on approach was cloudy/foggy right to the ground, temperature just above freezing - the plane touched down hard, and initially exited the runway to the left (towards the taxi-way, where planes were waiting), before cros...
Jump to postMy mum was on the flight, she just left me a voicemail. It was a very shaky final approach (wind shear? not sure what the weather conditions were), the aircraft landed hard, seemed to skid to one side, then exited onto the grass after a few seconds. It came to rest about 2/3 down the runway. No inju...

Jump to postEven though there is a large Indian population in Fiji, there isn't all that much demand for travel to India. The Fiji Indians have been there for about 3 - 4 generations now so most family ties to India have been lost, nowadays Australia, New Zealand and the US are the most popular destinations for...
Jump to postHi there Moolies As people have pointed out, the service is where AirNZ excels (especially crew, food and wine onboard, check-in and the AKL lounge). To be honest, unless you regularly fly biz on the top Asian carriers (SQ...

Jump to postThe Nadi flight has been operating since 2000 or 2001 I think, actually Korean used to operate it in the early 90s as well but then stopped. You can still find faded old Korean Airlines promotional posters in many of the travel agencies in Fiji from this time. The flights all continue on to Auckland...
Jump to postThanks for the details, I was wondering which days these flights would operate!
Cheers, Zac
P.S.Are you related to airnzboy by any chance?!
VirginFlyer's right - the only routes on which NZ sells F are AKL-LAX, LAX-LHR and SYD-LAX. They used to also offer F on AKL-NAN-LAX when a 744 operates, not sure if they still do this though (the route is usually 3x weekly with a 763 but occasionally is also scheduled with a 744). The cabin is usua...
Jump to postSorry MattNZ, they don't give out amenity kits on the trans-tasmin flights, although if you ask the crew I'm sure they'll look and see if there are any on board. Why don't you change your flights? If you are flexible with the times, try for a lunchtime or dinner flight - the breakfast flights don't ...
Jump to postHi MattNZ the upper deck is great, although it's usually pretty full (on some flights the upper deck J can be absolutely full, with only about 2 - 3 people in the lower deck J - on those the lower deck is better because you get fantastic service and it almost feels like you're in your own private ca...
Jump to postHi B-HXB great report, I've done that flight a few times as well and I think your observations are spot on. The 767-200 you were on on the way to Sydney is the only one they still have with the old seats, they really wern't all that comfortable I agree, hopefully it'll be disappearing soon. I've als...
Jump to postAirNZ fly 737-300s, 767-200s, 767-300s and 747-400s trans tasmin. The 767-200s have basically the same interior as the 300s, except one of them has the old business class seats (and no in-seat PTVs, but on this aircraft the crew hand out Sony Video Watchmen to all J pax with a choice of movies). Che...
Jump to postMy next trip is London to Fiji in late August, returning late September, on Air New Zealand via LAX and AKL

Hi Crazyboi AirNZ's newest 744 does have a flight camera (I'm pretty sure that you're right that it's SUJ), as well as larger PTV screens in Business and First and flat beds in First. Unfortunately, the 744s are rotated around all routes that are served by 744s (AKL to LAX/LHR, to Japan, sometimes A...
Jump to postmy first (and last) AN flight was NAN - SYD on Sept. 12th (Fiji time) - the terrorist attacks happened while we were in the air
Jump to postVirginFlyer, you're absolutely right. 3 - 4 Business Class passengers per flight are not worth the extra space, extra flight attendent, extra catering, menus etc. that are necessary, and AirNZ will be saving quite a bit by removing biz class from its domestic fleet (obviously, otherwise they wouldn'...
Jump to postNAN frequency is being increased by 1x weekly. In terms of capacity, it will be a large increase as all flights will be changed to 767 or 763 (currently NZ66 is 733, rest are 763)
Cheers, Fqtv
actually it's more like:
In Y class it's possible, in J class it's easy, in F class none of us would dare miss a minute
Using frequent flyer miles is the best and also most common way to get an upgrade. The "prices" (amount of miles you need) for upgrades depend on how far you are flying and which airline you are on. Usually, you can only upgrade on the airline whose ff miles you are using (in your case American). 8,...
Jump to postKorean should be fine (especially if its free!), otherwise Air France fly to Tahiti and you may be able to get a cheap flight on Air Tahiti Nui or AirNZ to Auckland. Air France also fly to Noumea, which may be cheaper, but I think they fly via Asia which would make it quite a long flight. Of the pla...
Jump to postSomeone actually asked if it was true! That's very funny, but the article isn't.
Jump to postI am upgraded on almost every flight I take with AirNZ, because I have a gold elite FF card and pay for the upgrades with points. This is basically the only way of being sure of an upgrade, unfortunately. Despite what some people have said about "you get what you pay for", airlines are usually happy...
Jump to postHi mikey
I'll be flying AirNZ down to Nadi in March too, but probably closer to the end. How long are you staying? I'll be flying from London, first to Australia, then Auckland then Nadi, and should be there around the 27th or so.
Cheers, Zac
Hi Jocke08 I would say that Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Cathay have the best biz classes on this route. I don't know anything about Emirates, but if their biz class is good they would also be a good choice because you can stop in Dubai, Male, Colombo and Singapore (at least when flying f...
Jump to postHi Thomas
Almost all airlines have a 2-3-2 config in business class on the main deck of their 747s.
Cheers, Zac
Hi VirginFlyer
last time I checked Air France fly to Tahiti (via USA) and Noumea (via Asia). A few cargo airlines stop in Nadi (eg Polar, Fed Ex). Otherwise, not many non-pacific airines excet AirNZ and Qantas fly to the South Pacific, unfortunately.
Cheers, Zac
Hi mikey
could you look and see if the 744 is operating every week as NZ52/55? I'm flying to Fiji/NZ/Oz at easter, and might end up on the 744 (although I sort of prefer the 763s). I'll be travelling LAX-NAN on the 21st, 22nd or 23rd of March.
Cheers, Zac
Hi Smoberly, my mum has been an aerophob all her life, but over the last few years she's found a way to make it better. It's not the cheapest option, but this is what she does: she either buys a business class ticket, or upgrades from economy to business using frequent flyer miles. This is why she s...
Jump to postWow ZK-NBT thanks for the info! Nadi's basically my home airport (if I have one) so it's nice that there's a 744 flying there again

Jump to postHi Singapore_sq I think I'm going to have to add myself to the list of 3 or 4 people who have already pointed out that you haven't got your facts straight. Jump to postHi everyone I fly AirNZ from Europe to the pacific/NZ about 3 times a year (usually in J). Air NZ J class is very good, excellent food and wines and even better service. The lack of electric seat controls really doesn't make any difference, and the seats are very comfortable. A bed would be better, ...
Jump to postI just have one, Air NZ Airpoints Gold Elite with about 70,000 points Cheers, Zac P.S. I think it's better to just have one or two FF cards and try to only fly with those carriers (and their partners) - you get to the elite levels much quicker, and that's when being a FF really gets fun <img s...
Jump to postHi Udo I was booked on NZ14 SYD-LAX today (Sept 12th) but as it was cancelled I am stuck in Sydney...the Air New Zealand staff were very nice, they have booked me in business class on tomorrow's flight. Jump to postActually Singapore_Air your comments are kind of childish, I and SQ look forward to you etc. etc., lets try and keep these messages about airplanes and flying, and not get too obsessed eh?

Greetings from New Zealand Hi Trentis I know what you mean about AirNZ's business class. I flew LHR-LAX-SYD last week, and SYD-AKL yesterday all in biz (free upgrades using airpoints, I could never afford an actual biz class ticket) and the service was absolutely superb. Did you try the desert wine?...
Jump to postHi Murf I'm in Fiji about 4 times a year, so I hope I can help you a bit. Air Pacific is fine, nothing special, and your flight from LAX to NAN will be on Air Pacific's only remaining 747 (a -200). Mikey is right that they returned a 747-200 to Qantas due to the coup, but they had two so there is st...
Jump to postThanks for the info on Emirates' biz class KHI747. I've always wondered what it is like, especially as its by far the cheapest biz class product from Germany to many destinations. Jump to postGOT means that you can't go to your travel agent and book a flight on Singapore Airlines from MAN to AMS, even though they fly this route. The same was the case with AirNZ's flights from LAX to HNL - you could only fly this segment if you were also booked on an AirNZ flight leaving or departing LAX ...
Jump to postHere's what I would like to see: - Ansett fly to LHR, using whatever aircraft they like, via Hong Kong - the Frequent Flyer programs of Ansett and AirNZ merged (or at least, AirNZ FFs allowed to upgrade on Ansett - I'd love to experience the onboard chef <img src="/discussions/graphics/wink.gi...
Jump to postSingapore owns 25% of AirNZ so you bet that they knew NZ was talking to Thai. Also, these arn't kids, they're businesses - they do what makes money, and if codesharing with Thai makes business sense then they'll do it.
