I am planning on a flight from Vienna to Abu Dhabi and then onto New Delhi. I have an overnight connection in Abu Dhabi for 23 hours.
I am a US citizen.
Will I need to produce my travel visa for India upon check-in in Vienna?
Or will they only check in in Abu Dhabi?
More examples:
ATL-OKL-TUS (years and years ago) on DL
CVG-PVD-BGR (again, years ago) on DL
SFO-SNA-LAX (on UA - when UA has a once daily A320 SNA-LAX)
ORD-MKE-DEN (UA)
ORD-PIA-DEN (UA)
ORD-MLN-DEN (UA)
CVG-LIT-DFW (DL)
CVG-SDF-DFW (DL)

In the 90’s, I would often have a regular ticket - but then ask the gate agent to rebook me in creative ways. It often was successful. A couple of years ago, I booked Boston-Nantucket-JFK on JetBlue. That was a fun one! Upthread, someone asked how this is done. You simply choose multi-city booking.
Jump to postSigh - remember when Delta, United, and TWA all shared C? Much smaller footprint then!
Jump to postDear all, My memory may not be accurate here. I remember when flying Boston to Florida in the 70’s, the safety briefing always included a life-jacket demonstration. But flying Boston-Chicago, it did not. I recall the explanation was that when we fly over water (to Florida), we need that briefing. Bu...
Jump to postHow often have you created your own connection (on one ticket) via a non-hub? For example, in the 90’s, I would do things like: Atlanta-Knocksville-Cincinnati on Delta Chicago-Des Moines-Denver on United Countless others! These were not same plane/one stop/direct flights. Rather, distinct flights wi...
Jump to postIf I recall, runway 14 was built as a one-way runway for takeoff only. But I noticed today that Delta flight 5645 as well as a number of other flights landed on 32 (same runway, opposite direction). Have things changed or is this an anomaly?
Jump to postWhat are some of the larger airports that don’t have any jetways at all? What about smaller airports that do have them? I can’t think of any major international airports that still don’t have jetways. But there are certainly sizable airports that don’t. Burbank and Long Beach come to mind. As for sm...

The fascination with carry-on is fascinating, I’m going on the 2-day trip to CLT next month, checking my bag. It’s far enough enough to drag it from the cab to the counter. Not sure why you would call it a fascination! It’s more like a time-saver. I’d rather have 45 minutes to do other things than ...
Jump to postWhat points of exit/ entry have you used when traveling to/ from the us? Jump to postLast week, I flew PHL-BOS on AA, then BOS-LAX on UA on another ticket. My original plan was to have a roller board and a small backpack. But at the last minute, I was told I needed to bring my guitar as well. Hmmm…. How to do this? There would not be ample time to exit security in BOS, retrieve the ...
Jump to postI was thinking about the variety of airliners I have flown across the Atlantic. The list is interesting to me. Mind you, I am NOT including variants (747-100 = 747-800 in my list). Jump to postMost of mine have been 5th Freedom. What are some of your shortest flights in F or C on long haul internationally configured planes? How was the service? LHR-CPH on Varig in F on a DC10 This was a long time ago. I remember being served a sandwich. It was pretty lackluster. MAN-AMS on SQ in C on a 74...

Jump to postThe only times I’ve ever been grilled have been by flights/ drives to and from Canada. The worst was just a few years ago when entering northern Vermont in a rural area. The customs official must have been bored, as he grilled me about the name of the airport I flew into in Montreal. It was weird. A...
Jump to postOh - and then there was the time we visited Shanghai. Upon arrival at the airport, we sought transportation to the Ritz. There was an official hotel desk with a rep standing (not behind the counter, but in front of it). He processed our transaction and brought us to the vehicle (an unbranded van). W...
Jump to postI believe in the good of humanity, and I see it first hadn't when traveling. I've also had a handful of experiences when I've been had. I thought it would be fun to share them here. (Keep in mind - I don't intend to harp on stereotypes. There are bad apples everywhere). So - here's my funny "be...
Jump to postBig BOS fan, and I am planning a connection there in March. What flights might be coming and going to/from oversees locations between 4 and 6 pm?
Jump to postBeen doing this for 30 plus years. Countless flights for the sake of flying and experiencing airlines, aircraft, and airports. I’ve done RTW trips hardly leaving the airports.
Jump to postOh - there was also the America West Club (formerly the Phoenix Club).

Jump to postWidebodies were so much more common when I was little. We used to fly BOS-ORD regularly in the 1970's, and UA/AA/TW all had either DC10's (AA/UA) or L10's (TW) on the rout. First 747 was in 1981 on a BA flight BOS-LHR. That was a treat. In the 1990's, I flew my first 777 on United. I remember how sp...
Jump to postI always ask the same question when people post about anxiety regarding short connections: What is your threshold if you miss the connection? 1) Are you ok if you arrive a day late? 2) If you are upgraded are you ok if you are downgraded in the process of being rebooked? 3) Did you pick a particular...
Jump to postIn the 1980’s JAT(Yugoslavian) had service to Cleveland. I believe it was charter. At the time, there was a sizable community there. Here’s a 23 year old thread,

Had the opportunity to fly it three times, thanks to incredible frequent flyer promotions. I bought $1200 in magazines that translated to a roudtrip Concord flight!
Jump to postI remember in the old days when ABQ had a satellite terminal with ground level gates and a couple of second level jetways attached to the land side terminal. TWA used those land side gates, and they had a small Ambassadors club.

Jump to postWhat examples are there of two airports with same name? (Not same city name, Like Portland Oregon/Portland, Maine). Rather, same airport name.
Example: both Billings and Boston are “Logan.”
Any others?

Back when US airlines maintained hubs oversees, it was much more common (TW and PA regional european flights, UA's Asia network, etc.)
Jump to post2) NOWHERE, and I mean NOWHERE else in the world calls it ‘Domestic First Class’. Jump to postWhen was your Golden Age of FF travel? Mine was the decade 1995-2005. Merely flying 100,000 or 100 segments (often for under 3K USD) garnered top status. Upgrades were pretty simple. My favorite was the UA 747-400, NRT-SFO. SFO was fogged in, so we diverted to Oakland. After 1/2 hour on the ground, the 747 hopped across the bay into SFO.
Great article for collectors like me!

It took me 20 hours to get from LAX-SFO because of delays. Does that count?
Jump to postIn the 90’s, if I wanted to fly F or C US-Europe, it went without saying that flying a European carrier (almost any) was better than UA/AA/TW/NW/DL/US. What’s the shortest flight that has the best of international F?
