Re: American Airlines orders 47 additional 787's (22 788's and 25 789's), cancels A350 order

The 779 has the same type rating as the 77W, and a common rating with the 787. The reason the A350s were cancelled is partially because they want simplicity in training and operations . Adding the A35K is detrimental to that goal. I would tend to agree with you on that front. But suppose AA ends up...

Re: American Airlines orders 47 additional 787's (22 788's and 25 789's), cancels A350 order

There will be NO A350s at AA. 787-10 is a definite possibility. I agree 787-10s are possible, even quite likely, but no A350s? What about in 10 years when they want 777-300ER replacements? The 777-8 is far too powerful for the US carriers to want (unless they want to fly to like... Perth, Mauritius...

Re: American Airlines orders 47 additional 787's (22 788's and 25 789's), cancels A350 order

Before this order was placed AA had 58 options for the 787. Assuming that they have converted 47 options into firm orders there is 11 left. There was another 28 options added to this order so there should be a total of 39 options in total left. For more refer to http://nyc787.blogspot.com.au/ -----...

Re: American Airlines orders 47 additional 787's (22 788's and 25 789's), cancels A350 order

Per Derek Kerr (AA CFO) employee PR interview the A350 order would have been gone regardless. While a good airplane, it simply did not make sense to absorb another fleet type. AA tasked manufacturers to come up with a strategy that would both cover 763 replacements and outstanding A350 order. Airbu...

MoM and A321LR could replace the 757s and some of the 767s 787-8 could replace some the 767s and the A332s 787-9 could replace the 772s and the A333s (which need to go soon) A350-1000 could replace the 77Ws. The "possible" AA MoM order would make up the difference in planes they for wideb...

Re: Bloomberg: Airbus A330 Neo Dropped From American Airlines Wide-Body Contest

If we assume 100kg per passenger, 30t payload is taken by the 300 passenger. That leaves 8t for cargo for a 787-9 and 16t for an A350. Not really a narrow set of routes here, but a typical flight from Asia. Even more if we take into account headwinds, temperatures & reserves. If giving up 12t c...

It looks like the 787-9 will be the choice for AA, but I guess we have to wait for an official announcement. I predict the real story will be AA replaces A359 order with 789s. I agree. That's what I think will happen. The 787-9 is the long haul airplane for the future at AA. They have 58 787s on op...

I don't think any of us are really shocked. This was a long time coming and I believe it to be prudent of AA. Their goals seem to be very clear, and this move underscores that. 58x 787 options is enough to replace the entire 77E and A333 fleet, plus some, and it is my belief the the 757, 767 and A33...
