I'm in the preparatory stages of a long-distance move, so I'm currently considering what to do with all the stuff I own. One of those things is my collection of aircraft models (mostly snap fit or die cast), including quite a few models of Wardair Canada planes. My collection isn't just made up of t...
Jump to postHere's the video I recorded inside the plane. Sorry about the less than steady camera (sadly, I don't have steady hands, so the vibrations of the plane got amplified): https://www.flickr.com/photos/federhirn/33674230294/lightbox/ Touchdown occurs around 1:10. Jump to postHello On the off chance that anyone's been taking photos or videos at Heathrow yesterday (Saturday, 6th May), I'd be very interested in any photos or videos of my plane landing - Turkish Airlines 777-300ER operating TK1985 from Istanbul. The reason I'm asking is that the landing felt bumpier than us...
Jump to postI'm trying to find some (ideally free or very cheap) tools to do fairly minor editing to some (HD) footage shot in portrait / vertical aspect ratio. Any suggestions or tips? I intentionally filmed vertically (not on a smartphone, but a camera on a tripod) because it suited the subject matter (planes...
Jump to postI'd consider it, depending on the price. I'd probably be more interested if I didn't live in the UK. Have you tried offering a package on an app like Showaround?
Jump to postI decided to post a slightly improved & more in-depth planespotters' guide to Madeira on my blog.
Jump to postWell, I agree with Airplane! on that list... I would have added Flight (the Denzel Washington movie) as I thought it was compelling and authentic (up to a point) in its depiction of the lead-up to the accident. Also, as mentioned by tb727 and klm672, Airport - an absolute must. I recently rewatched ...

Jump to postHi Does anyone own any of these 3 cameras? (Konica Minolta Dimage Z20, Fuji Finepix S5500 or Praktica Luxmedia 4008) I'm trying to figure out whether they are good quality for all round use (not just, but of course including planespotting), and which of the three is likely to be the best quality and...

Jump to postNice one. Hmmm. Only 200? I better treat mine very carefully then and sell it in 2010 on ebay as collector's item, eh?
Jump to postThe problem with photo albums is that they store the information (i.e. which images belong to the album) inside the URL. If that URL gets too long, browsers cannot cope. If the album is larger than 200 photos, in my experience, then all pages after the first will not be displayed. (For some reason, ...

Jump to postHow do I know which ones are high-res and which aren't? Is there any facility to contact photographers and ask them to upload individual images as high-res, for poester purposes?
Thanks a lot!
Hi, a while ago I asked about the Photo Sales - whether any big expansion / new features / more ultra-high-res pics were on their way. Henks (I believe it was him) promised that a lot would change during the next few weeks / month. So, with Christmas on its way, and my parents bugging me for a wish ...

Jump to postIt is my understanding that the separations are not in fact linearly adjusted by weight, but in steps, by type. Besides, please keep in mind I am purely speculating at this point. It's quite possible that there is no real problem, that it all just boils down to a clumsy yank of the controls at the wrong point in time.
From a trip report I wrote a few years ago... Short period oscillation (Pitch): When a plane is perturbed (disturbed away) from the steady (trimmed) state, and provided it is statically stable, it will attempt to return to the state it is trimmed to be in. Hence, if the pitch is increased for a v...
Jump to postHi there I just watched the Spaceship One webcast on www.xprize.org, and the unplanned roll caught my attention somewhat. Jump to postThere is usually a zone of supersonic flow. You can see the shadow of th...

Jump to postOkay, it might or might not be coupled to an advert that says "Winner Winner Winner" and flashes in (epilepsy-inducing) red and white. Can anyone explain why?

European Low Cost carriers do not generally overbook. They do keep the money and the taxes for no-shows, though. However, now that they allow changes to bookings, they might also change their policy on overbooking (pure speculation on my behalf). I believe there was talk about an EU regulation that ...

Personally, I think the fact that there were only two complaints is really depressing. It shows the sad state of British society... To be fair, I should point out that the advert is not a current thing. It was sent out at the time, and it's just the processing of the complaints (two of them, among all their newsletter readers, I believe), that took so long.
