Air crew rostering on Delta's ATL->JNB->CPT->ATL triangle route

Hello fellow anutters, I see that DL received permission to operate the triangle route ATL->JNB->CPT->ATL. I am curious how DL plans/rosters the air crew for this. What types of scenarios would cause an Air China flight PEK -> SFO to land and be held remotely for more than 1 hour, before finally taxiing to the gate? Any SFO folks on the ground have the intel? Google and twitter has been unhelpful so far. My guess is gate bottlenecks. https://imgur.com/a/53bFn
