Hey brettbrett, There is a very simple way to calculate the crosswind. although you have to know your math. But first something about the max crosswind limit of an aircraft. This value is always stated in the POH (operations manual.) normally a company demonstrates a landing with what they think is ...

RE: Why Different Engine Start-up Sequences?

It really would not matter wich engine is started first in my opinion. But an airline wants to have a common standard for its entire fleet. E.g Checklists for the 737-300 aircraft in use by for example KLM are all the same. On the other hand i can also imagine that it has something to do with starti...

RE: Extend The Spoilers At 50 Above The Runway?

Seems risky to me, you are already near the stall speed. deploying full spoilers could mean falling towards the earth instantly. not nice for the paxs. secondly, most airline pilots put the speedbrake handle in the landing config so they will deploy auto when the wheels hit the ground. also, spoiler...

Sorry typo, its indeed outboard ailerons instead of spoilers. (thanks for the correction)

The spoilers used when turning varies indeed with ac.
Airbus only uses if i recall correctly the four innner spoilers.

Or both???

For a long time i am facinated by the discussion wether newton causes an aircraft to fly or bernoulli??

I have my own theory: and that is they both do. depending on the wing used.

Some additional info on the subject might be in order. I agree with all it must have been roll control. At what point does the pilot decide to abort the landing. The plane is on its final approach. The pilot can already see the runway clearly. He then notices that he is to high on the glideslope. He tries to correct this but when almost reaching the treshhold he is still to high. He knows he is gonna ...
