It still seems rather odd to me that I have only ever seen Westjet take this deviation in routing. I have never seen another airline on this route avoid US airspace. Not saying it hasn’t happened, I’ve just never seen it. It’s always been a Westjet flight.

I’m kind of surprised that Westjet even has that many pilots who are 65+ but obviously they exist. I’ve seen this kind of deviation in routing quite often.

Prior to the pandemic UA was operating 2 to 3X per day year round from EWR to YHZ on Embraer 145’s. In the summer of 2019 they had even upgraded some of these flights to 319/320’s.
