You have there, in light grey, the most used systems in normal operation.

Left forward: fuel system
+/- center left : electrical system
+/- center right : hydraulic
right : air conditioning

Don't forget that those limits are "cross-wind <b>component</b>", which means the 90° component (left or right) of a given surface wind. Sorry, my mistake....holding fuel: 30min , that's correct.

There are also other ways to caculate fuel needed. But this is a little bit more complex to explain here. You can have " reclearance in flight", "without alternate available",etc...

We have at least two HF radios on board,.....plus the ACARS (we can use it like a fax or an email, if you prefer). On the other hand we are in contact by VHF with other airplanes around us and we can ask them to relay messages.

To have an idea of the range in VHF communication (or even for VOR reception) there is a simple formula :

range (in Nm) = 1,23*square root of height (in feet)


Let's say you are flying at 35000 feet (FL 350), that give you roughly 230 Nm.

Well guys you're wrong, sorry....The outer engines of the B747 have a different angle related the the fuselage axis than the inner. Check the trails of an overflying 747 you will notice that. None...there isn't anymore a fire extinguisher on stand by near the plane during the engine start, as, generaly, the start occurs after- or during - a more or less long push back.

Ask him to show you pin-points around there in order to familiarize yourself with experimented pilot and then try flying by your own, looking for those points, first not too far from your airport then...

Positive rate,

It is electronically connected on Airbus A320, A330 and A 340. Then via a computer ( BSCU - for Brake and Steering Control Unit, there is two off them onboard), the nose wheel is hydraulicaly actuated ("Green" hydaulic circuit).
