Personally, I would go for the late arrival into SYD. 6 -9am at SYD is just horrendous. You'll miss the peak hour traffic and be at your hotel quick smart - also, many hotel won't let you check in until after 1pm. Yes, you can pre book seats but always comes with the proviso ‘seats are not guaranteed’. However, I have never had a seat change in over 200 + flights.

Ring the NZ Contact Centre and request the seats through them.
