If you've got the cash, hard to beat the Canon 400 f2.8. The 400 f4 DO is also an incredible lens - and incredibly light.

Jump to postYour full size images are soft, and chances are it is a combination of the Sigma lenses and your focusing technique. The 20D is capable of pin sharp images, so if Canon says all is OK there, that leaves the lenses. I'm sure lots of folks will disagree, b...

Jump to postWhy are people so worried about their photos being stolen when they'll give them away to newspapers, books, magazines and everyone else that requests them for free?
Jump to postYou, the photographer, spend a lot of money on your equipment. You spend a lot of time tweaking and editing your images so they can meet the standards of airliners.net. A company goes to airliners.net because they know they can find lots of quality images of airplanes - think of the site as a giant,...
Jump to postBased on your message, we need to know how many will be printed to determine how much to license the photo for. And the calendar will only be used for retiring pilots? By the airline itself? On an inside page or on the cover? If it is used by the airline (for corporate use), with a 1000 print run, y...
Jump to postTo license for this sort of use, you wouldn't be out of line to quote in the neighborhood of $1500-2000 USD. Some may even consider that to be too low, as this is a decent sized advertising campaign.
Hope that helps,
Saul
One day, you may want to sell your photos, maybe to cover the cost of your photo equipment, maybe just to have some extra income. But why should someone buy them, from you or anyone else, if there already exists a huge market of quality images available for free? From your profile, you state you are...
Jump to postI hope you charged them accordingly for this type of use. Otherwise, this for-profit business is making money off of something you gave them for free. Jump to postPublishers have budgets set aside for artwork, especially for cover photos. Bo, Why did you shoot all your shots at 1/2000 f2.8? The small depth of field may be contributing to some of your recent rejections as it certainly has a good chance of causing much of an aircraft to be out of focus. It also makes it so that your focus has to be dead on as you have no margin for err...
