Re: Any film shooters?

$6 a scan for a true drum scan is insanely cheap. I’ve got a friend who does mine on a Heidelberg Tango and he charges me $25 each (normal price $35 each).

I do mine at 6000dpi which results in a file size of about 600mb. Each.

UAL 777 looks fine to me. My United shots seem to have the same color cast. Those three other rejections look fine quality wise to me, but they do seem a bit high in the frame for the current screening standards (I’ve had a couple of rejections for the same). As a result I’ve started making an effor...

Quality photography is all about good light. Open up a magazine, turn on the TV, or walk through an airport. You’ll see some great photos (or video) all shot in great light. We have all seen spectacular shots in poor weather; But, is that what we are talking about? I don’t know how shooting somethin...

the times of the 30D or the D70 my D100 and D70s were both 3000x2000 size images. And the images had quite a lot of noise. You couldn’t push/pull 6 stops like you can a modern DSLR (or the like). You couldn’t crop something heavily either. We also walked barefoot to the airport. And sometimes we go...

The easiest thing to do is to start with the basics. I would take your rig and take some pictures of static subjects at different focal lengths and go from there. I would also check things like your focus point(s) and what your AF is set to. If you have another lens and or body you can swap things a...

Common doesn’t mean that an image won’t be accepted, it just means that the subject is well-documented and that only the highest quality shots will make it.

I don't think the Priority Guidelines are followed at times, for instance shots of a Delta A350 at PDX added today, yet there is nothing in the guidelines that says such a frame would be considered newsworthy (the plane was doing a Troop Charter).

It is what it is.

Given the difference in price, and the huge jump is resolution (and file size) I would buy a D750 over a D850. Spend the rest on good glass. XQD cards are also expensive and difficult to find for sale, in a pinch. The 5D mk IV is D750 performance at D850 prices

I would take the camera/lens combo and mount it on a tripod (if you have one) and shoot a 3D object, like a chain link fence coming towards you or going away, with the VR off and check the results. You can also use a flat surface like a brick wall, but I think adding some depth will show you if any ...
