Ouch that must have really been a bad day. Looks like a lack of concentration by the person flying the plane as they lost the glideslope completely, and then proceeded to correct for it inappropriately.

I think it was probably just a corsswind correction. When applying power for takeoff, pilots will turn the ailerons into the wind for correction. The greater the corsswind, the more aileron deflection there will be. As the aircraft gains speed and lift over the wing, the ailerons become more respons...

It's pretty weird that this came up today. Last night I watched a Nova documentary of Swiss Air flight 111, which attempted to divert to Halifax due to the same problme, but did not reach the airport in time. I highly recommend the documentary, which can be found on Netflix.

I think part of the problem with these people is change. I personally either bring a newspaper on board or a backpack which fits perfectly under the seat. My dad however, for years has been bringing one of those roller bags onto the aircraft which easily fits in any overhead bin, but does not always...

Definately go with ATC on emergencies, sqwak 7700 and tune 121.5. You could also use a local class B,C,D facility control tower (familiar with the area) or even and Approach/Departure or Center facility.

Wow what a story. These weather balloons are a pain in the a**. There is one down by Key West Florida that has it's own airspace 0-14,000 ft MSL. It's a hassle for VFR flyers in the area.
