Regarding Apollo 12- the lightning strike caused an electrical shortout to some systems and the entire mission was in doubt the first couple of minutes of the flight. A NASA software engineer came up with a solution i believe and the problem was solved uneventfully.

So they have some DC-10's and 747 classics in their fleet- big deal. At least they have an interesting fleet- not just the usual boring 747-400 like most INTL carriers have. And the DC-10/742 are a minority in the fleet anyhow.

Not using reverse thrust saves fuel? C'mon reverse thrust is only used for a matter of seconds anyway and the fuel usage would be negligible and probably next to nothing anyway on an A320. The more likely explanation would be 1)Noise restrictions and 2)FOD to engines 3)save wear and tear
