Skimmed that article earlier today. I'd believe it. I remember a decade ago a multi instructor telling me that airline pilots he knew had a hard time handling a Piper Seminole after being in jets for a while, just like with anything else, once you get used to the automation the rust kicks in.

As axelesgg says, they used to have the F100 as well, there is even a cockpit video program featuring a flight in it to Nador. Air Canada also uses the E jets to do vacation charters, since they are well suited/designed for short to mid length thin routes.

There is no way to program a delay in a squat switch on GA aircraft (generally speaking), they are wired in series with the lever, so the second the contact makes the lock pins pop out and the gear motor starts running.
