He probably metered off the airplane itself, giving it a more accurate exposure. The light also reflects off the snow/ice, working as a bounce to the underside of the aircraft. Nice composition and effective use of available light.

The lens is well sealed so I doubt you get dust etc inside the camera itself from the lens. That will all come from changing lenses, especially in a dusty environment.

I have shot with mine at the beach, river, airport, in flight, no problems.

Canon won't honor a grey market warranty, but a reputable seller like <acronym title="easyJet Switzerland">BH</acronym> makes up for that with their own warranty.
