RAAF C17

Does anyone have any idea as to when the first C17 begins assembly at Long Beach? I was told that it takes 3 months to assemble and as they will receive the first C17 by the end of the year I thought it would be getting close if not already on its way doen the line.

RAAF will have it's first C17 by the end of the year (hopefully four by mid 2008) then followed by five A330MRTT. They should cast a shadow over the B757 I think!

It looks as though it is being towed from maint so I would presume that there would be an engineer on the flight deck in lieu of flight crew.

I seem to remember that Qantas New Zealand was a separate company owned by NZ businessmen who had a contract with QANTAS to fly NZ routes on their behalf, whereas when AN went under they were owned 100 percent by ANZ.

QF does not serve SIN and HKG direct from Cairns. They all go via BNE. Australian Airlines is primarily targeted at the leisure market with a cost base 30 percent below that of QF. They will start serving these two cities and others direct from CNS. For more info see australianairlines.com.au.

Thanks for the info, it seems that on 17 Jun it goes via AKL, on 16 Jun its non-stop and 18 Jun onwards, it's non-stop.

On the trans continental leg I found the service to be OK, the food was good, the cabin staff whilst friendly were not 'bubbly'. I believe that one has been purchased by John Travolta after the two SPs were scrapped. He was in Sydney a few weeks ago and visited the QANTAS Jet Base with rumours saying that he was interested in one of the 238Bs.

He was contemplating a QF SP however the sale fell through and both aircraft are now being broken up in Arizona. He was in Sydney two weeks ago and visited the QANTAS Jet Base to look over a 238B that QF are getting rid of, presumably the purchase would be of one of them not a SP.

The 762 will be used primarily as Tankers secondly as cargo. The RAAF is getting the B737 Wedgetail AEW aircraft in 04 with the BBJ and Challegers used for VIPs.

How many QF744s on order? I can find only the 6 744LRs on the Boeing site. Also, I'm with you on QF keepiong the B744. Whilst the A380 will be the flagship on its long haul services, the Boeing will be the workhorse.
