It looks as though it is being towed from maint so I would presume that there would be an engineer on the flight deck in lieu of flight crew.

According to QANTAS to first ER was accepted on 30 Oct.
The same papers also state that the 'other possibilities' statement mentioned by the AIRNZ CEO was a bargaining ploy to be used in the negotiations with QF.

I seem to remember that Qantas New Zealand was a separate company owned by NZ businessmen who had a contract with QANTAS to fly NZ routes on their behalf, whereas when AN went under they were owned 100 percent by ANZ.

QF does not serve SIN and HKG direct from Cairns. They all go via BNE. Australian Airlines is primarily targeted at the leisure market with a cost base 30 percent below that of QF. They will start serving these two cities and others direct from CNS. For more info see australianairlines.com.au.
