Re: Air Canada News and Discussion - 2023

Certainly some element of this is due to the long-haul fleet being stretched extremely thin this summer. The AC aircraft I was on the other day across the Atlantic was delayed by an hour and a half. When looking at FR24, the aircraft had been playing catch up for the previous 5 of the 7 days of fli...

Jimbo, just curious how much extra do you think is needed to add to ticket prices to meet the pilots demand? Take a 175 seat jet. On a 5 hour flight its about the cost of a latte, or less than a quarter of what someone paid to hop on an über or beat up Prius to get you to the airport to increase bot...

Re: YYZ to impose hard caps on flight/pax

Both YUL and YYZ give visual departure takeoff clearances. As of last year, YUL can also turn jets on departure. YYZ's SIDs have diverging headings built in, so the've been doing it for a while now. And as for visual approaches, like I said, airlines don't want their pilots doing shortcuts. Thanks ...

Re: YYZ to impose hard caps on flight/pax

My understanding is that many Canadian airports can't give you a visual in the same way as the US is because of noise. They want you on the extended centerline at 3,000 feet. Down in the US they have you down to 1000 on base leg in many cases. Also due to noise they can't send departures in differen...

Seat guru may say that. But I can confirm the old 320s are vastly more comfortable than the 737s in Y. The J is nicer in the 737s however. There is more bin space in the 737.

I think the answer is a little more eye opening. Even in the first world it would not surprise me that any MTOW take off is done over weight. The standard weight hasn't changed in many years. Carry on baggage is getting heavier. Some routes (Jamaica at my airline) are known for pretty excessive carr...

Maybe someone with actual experience in a 320 can comment, but in the instances I’ve seen where we have mis-managed energy in a descent, throwing the gear *early* is an easy, effective way to increase drag, slow down, and get down. Gear speed in my airplane is a full 50 knots faster than flap speed...

The idea of any crew member having a gun on their person on an airplane is outrageous. However, just to humour those gun nuts, why would a pilot need one? Completely depends on the plane. On the Airbus for instance in an A319 at light weights with a head wind you can slow down very quickly (only issue is Vapp is lower) but in an A321 close to MLW with minimal wind it takes longer to slow down, though luckily Vapp is higher often 140-150 so you don't n...
