Re: China Eastern 737-800 crashes in Guangxi, southern China

I don’t have a theory, other than I don’t think runaway stabilizer trim fits the data. On a subsequent attempt with the same full nose-down trim applied, all it took was slight back pressure on the yoke to fully arrest the descent. Is that a full-motion airline-quality simulator, absolutely not. I ...

Initial climb is 123 to 128 depending on weight, final segment climb is 135 to 170 depending on weight. Enroute climb is 170 or 180 depending on head or tailwind. Climb rates vary from 3000+ feet per minute below 10,000 feet to 500 feet per minute at 30,000 feet depending on weight and temperature.

Your indicated stall speed will increase, but only very slightly, mostly due to the angled wind hitting the pitot/static sensors. Not enough to worry about if you're flying the approach at the proper speed.

RE: Last Time A/C Landed On 19 Or 10 At SFO

I've landed on the 10s a few times, landed on 1R twice, 28s and 19s a bunch of times. I'd say landing on the 1s is more rare than landing on the 10s, but not by much. Departing on the 10s is as common as landing on the 19s, i.e. when they're landing on the 19s, they're also taking off on the 10s (wi...

RE: Typical Ldg Speed Of Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia

Most of our landings are done with flaps set at 25, the speed depends on the weight, ranging from 125 at the highest weight to about 115. With flaps 45 the speeds range from about 116 to 100. If there's ice on the airplane when landing, then those speeds are increased, to a max of 140 with flaps 25 ...

RE: Bird Strikes - Need Technical Info For Story

It depends on what part of the airplane it hits. Usually nothing adverse happens and you just have to have maintenance do a "bird strike" inspection at your destination. If you're flying a turboprop and it hits one of the props, it could splatter all over the windows, thus giving the passengers some...

Purple avgas isn't made anymore, and for civilian use, it was only made to order. It was 115/145 octane, where as the current low-lead (blue) is 100/130, and it had more than double the lead.

I would never pay for a type rating just to go to a regional with it. The only thing it will do for you is make the interviewer expect you to know everything there is to know about that airplane. You'll probably make it harder, not easier, to get the job (in the US).
