Been thinking more about yesterday's CLE/BOS news. So there's one argument that Boston is nothing for UA, it's a low yielding route that can't make money for UA, maybe DL will do better because they can get some connecting traffic on this route, and they have greater critical mass on the Boston sid...Jump to post
...Not that CLE is all that important to UA any more, but ceding BOS to Delta gives Clevelanders a new one stop, same airline alternative to Europe (one that is vastly superior in my opinion to EWR, and more "on the way" than IAD).... This is a very good point. This will make for a superi...Jump to post
Looks like UA is pulling the plug on CLE-BOS in March. They lasted longer than I expected. Wouldn't be surprised if DL jumps on this route. Nice opportunity for B6 to add frequencies as well. Yay B6/NK!!! I wouldn't say replacing UA with NK for a key business route is a victory by any measure. Betw...Jump to post
The amount of anti-Burke feeling is mind-boggling. In an online economic development forum held this week, at least as reported by the PD, there was no mention of improvements at Hopkins or better air service, but a lot of people pushing the destruction of BKL. From the PD: Other questions were more...Jump to post
^I hope not. Does anyone else find less than daily service horrendously irritating? I travel a lot for business and business travel is the golden egg for airlines. And since no one else is flying CLE-Europe, I hope FI makes a sincere attempt to capture the business traveler. But many a business trav...Jump to post
^My point is it has nothing to do with Kennedy. Airlines WANT to make money and they will serve routes where they see it can easily make money relative to other routes. As I said, Cleveland is 4-5M people. And airlines have whole teams of people who analyze thousands of potential city pairs as they ...Jump to post
Kennedy's been here what, not even two years? In that time we've gotten DL to SLC, FI (and WW) to KEF, WN to MKE and ATL, NK to MSY, second daily flights to LAX and SFO on UA, and more. Just because CMH and PIT have a few things we don't have (just like we have routes they don't), does not make thi...Jump to post
^This is the brand new in-line baggage handling system I take it. I guess its not under warranty or the vendor may be saying CLE has to do things and that's why its not otherwise fixable...... I wouldn't expect substantial infrastructure improvements until after the master plan is completed. Until t...Jump to post
https://www.cleveland.com/letters/index.ssf/2018/10/our_airport_is_a_disgrace_lett.html A succinct and well written letter to the editor complaining about the state of the airport. . . Another PD article on WW and FI. Nothing particular new in it regarding CLE, except maybe a statement by WW that, CLE wasn't necessarily losing money, rather WW could make more money elsewhere--and this part is speculation---like perhaps India. https://www.cleveland.com/travel/2018/10/cleveland-hopk...Jump to post
All lot of CLE aviation buffs may not have a lot of love for CO/UA. But a lot of businesses and individuals have contracts and frequent flier miles with United. If available they will take a one-stop on a Star carrier versus a one-stop on an Icelandic carrier. If there was a non-stop option that wo...Jump to post
From the PD article cited above: Quote from FI: "The loads outside of summer still do not appear to warrant year-round service, yet." How do they know? If one can't book FI outside of summer, they have no idea what loads would be like. I have a meeting in Europe in Nov--I wanted to take F...Jump to post

I did a quick and dirty estimate based on June international numbers out of CLE that said CLE traffic was somewhere around 130-140 pax per KEF flight (5 weekly by FI; 4 weekly by WW). If you spread this summer's traffic over a daily 2019 summer flight by FI, 173 pax per day exceeds the capacity of ...Jump to post
I still couldn't take FI for a trip I wanted due to their 5x schedule. So I hope when FI returns it is daily and year-round. I also had a second trip for which I would have used FI, but am using DL because FI stopped flying because of winter, even though business doesn't stop because its winter (unl...Jump to post
^The majority of int'l traffic is likely on the Icelandics. And for leisure. Most business traffic may still be using UA/DL/AA via JFK, EWR, etc. So looking at the Icleandics and also Caribbean, for those traveling with kids on vacation, July is a full month off, but August is only about 20-22 days,...Jump to post
More support for a CLE-SAN flight, as the article says both locations will be kept.

In eniliria’s OAG post today, some strange one-month big jumps in capacity in April for WN, then a drop of 75% by 3 months later. Loading errors by WN or something else?

Was downtown at the Indians game tonight. Nice to see United still advertising pretty heavily (7th and 8th innings with digital and physical banners). They also have a constant advertising presence on the digital boards in Playhouse Square (where they still operate a small sales office next to the ...Jump to post
What's wrong with a new terminal on existing land? I'm not saying it would be easy to squeeze it in, but it would certainly be possible. The amount of money Kennedy is throwing around in the article is more along the lines of "new" rather than "bandaid". There's a reason there h...Jump to post
Where is the evidence that it now includes Wayne County, give us the website please. International Passengers July YTD 2018: 144,421 July YTD 2017: 120,380 % Change: 19.97% I'm not the greatest at interpreting O&D pax numbers, pax loads, etc., so I'm curious if anyone has insight into what these numbers (specifically international) might mean for new TATL service. The list would be too long to mention here. If you can't stop sea level from rising, it seems like the only solution is to build dykes around them. But other infrastructures like access roads can be affected by floods. Not an easy job and certainly not a cheap one! How would dikes help these airpor...Jump to post
I read somewhere else that "tires were deflated" though the image a few posts up don't show that. Assuming the author meant 'deflated' upon landing--why would that occur--ultra hot asphalt from construction or some treatment to concrete that was yet to dry?Jump to post
I dunno, but if I'm in Cleveland in the winter, I most likely will want to travel someplace....where it isnt winter. Not that difficult to figure this one. Ha...good point! If FI went from 5 days to 7 days in CLE they may see better returns as people still opt for the major alliances because there is no service for some on one or both directions of their trip. I know they offer flights to CLE via BOS (B6) on those days, but that makes EUR-CLE two stops vs. 1 stop at AT...Jump to post

CLE bonds are now investment grade.
^What a vacation-killer. You spend a relaxing week in Florida, then have to wake up at 5 or 6am on Saturday to catch a flight back to CLE. Its kind of funny that people put so much expectation into WN's schedule 'extensions' for CLE only to be always and forever disappointed.Jump to post
"City 1-Cleveland--bigger population:" Yeah, that's false. Cleveland is less than half the size of Columbus. "Bigger economy:" Again, false. Columbus has a greater GDP. "And 463 ACTUAL pax:" Who cares? As soon as AS starts, CMH will have more *actual* pax. If Columbus ...Jump to post
^oh that's fine. I was thinking you meant outright cash like IND is paying DL for CDG--something crazy like $5M. marketing support and waived landing fees are minor--i'd say those are "incentives" more than "subsidies". but in either event, I'm okay with that. Lots of airports do...Jump to post
Also, I believe NE Ohio traffic will help drive this flight in the winter as there is no non-stop option there during the "slow" season but plenty of demand... Not likely. If CLE gets AS, you can bet that a subsidy will also be used. We used one for SLC, and we will have to use one for SEA. If CLE subsidizes AS they would be required to also subsidize F9. Therefore I don’t see AS being offered subsidies at CLE. CLE shouldn't subsidize SEA. There's enough natural dema...Jump to post
City 1-Cleveland--bigger population, bigger economy, and 463 ACTUAL pax. City 2-Columbus OH--smaller population, smaller economy, and 288 ACTUAL pax. Choosing City 2 OVER city 1 makes no sense.
