Maybe he should look more into speed instead of volume? I think a 300~350 seat plane that goes 2 or 3 times the speed of the A380 is better for Emirates. Just my two cents!

Look at the history; KSSU (KLM SAS Swissair UTA) was the first start of the airline alliances. Similar fleets and combined maintenance were back then the key focus and were done very successful. This focus has shifted to the modern airline alliances for mainly passengers and hubs today. But I wonder...

With a strong dollar (or weak euro) I think that KLM looks for sure at Airbus to replace the 77E. Also the environmental restrictions at AMS and EU politics might push for Airbus.

My first 767 flight was on a United B767-200 from ORD-LAX in 1985. My last 767 flight was on a Delta B767-400 from DUS-ATL in 2019

In between I had many more 767 flights:

Delta: B767-300, B767-400
United: B767-200, B767-300
US Air: B767-200
Air Mauritius: B767-200
KLM: B767-300

One virus that has been in the planning is the Marburg virus. They are already producing ‘vaccins’. I think that Marburg will be a bad one and will ground many airlines indefinitely and reset the world.

Does anybody know the ANA hours and cycles of the retired 777-300er planes? I think they might be all high-hour frames. I flew on all of the retired frames multiple times (mainly between IAD-NRT). Maybe that is why they cannot be sold?

Talked to an ANA officer I know and they probably will bring one of the A380 on the route NRT-ORD twice a week, hence the semi leisure seating configuration. Also the restart to DUS with a 787 is on the agenda.

Maybe FedEx can look at some of the stored A380. Wasn’t FedEx interested in them before? I am sure that some airlines will go along with a conversion program; Emirates, Lufthansa, MAS, China Southern, Singapore, etc. that also have them already and also cargo divisions.

Ship SX-OAA went to TWA if I remember right. Ship SX-OAB is the one in this story. What happened to the ex SQ birds they bought in the early 80’s after Greece entered the EU? I think there were 2 or 3 of them?

Flew once with a CAAC HS-121 on a inter-China route back in 1985. Planes was very comfortable. Flew also on Tridents of BA. I think CAAC had a substantial fleet of Tridents.

Most of the ANA 77W must have low cycles and high hours. I flew on all of the retired birds as recent as late 2019 - early 2020 when Corona started. My flights were about monthly from Washington Dulles to Tokyo vv. or Chicago to Tokyo vv. always in business class. All flights were typical 12+ hours ...

My first L1011 flight was on TWA from SFO-JFK (red-eye flight)
My last L1011 flight was on TWA from AMS-JFK
So yes, TWA was important to my aviation life…

JFK in the 1980’s:
Pan Am, TWA, International Terminal Most Airliners flew their 747 on a daily base:
Aer Lingus, Sabena, British Airways, British Caledonian, KLM, Lufthansa, Air France, SAS, ElAl, Alia, Iberia, Alitalia, Olympic, Swissair, Aerolineas Argentinas, Varig, Korean Air, JAL, etc.

Well the plane VT-JEW is over 15 years old and I think it will be scrapped at AMS soon. I do not see any KLM rescue plan for it. KLM must worry about their own existence in the near future as well as looking for B777-200ER (almost 20 years) and A330 replacements soon.

Maybe that is it? I am not sure. I talked a few years ago with a Delta captain and he said that Delta did not wanted to do that and was instead retiring the fleet.

With Covid given as the main reason for the rapid retirement of the B744 worldwide as passenger planes, I remember that the whole B744 fleet also needed a costly upgrade (by 2021 I believe). Don’t remember the exact details about the upgrade.

Very ambitious plans... Did anybody tell them that a B777 or an A330 also has two engines? I remember that Braathens SAFE tried long distance with little planes as well. Actually the SAFE stood for South America Far East.

Right now KLM is part of a French holding company. Should the crown not be gone now it is not Royal (Koninklijk) anymore? I think KLM Asia still exists solely for tax reasons.

KLM will fly at least to 2021 with them and celebrate 50 years of constant 747 service. BA (BOAC) and LH (and maybe QF?) are the only other airlines that can claim that. Would like to see some special liveries...
