Is JATO used for functional purposes on C-130s other than Fat Albert?

I thought I heard that it was used in Bosnia for extra short take offs.

It is possible to use, but it is expensive so reserved for extreme situations.
Not only are Jato bottles expensive, they put extra stress on the airframe. Environmental concerns may also have something to do with it.

The Canadian Air Force used them in the 60s and 70s but they caused too much airframe stress and were removed  Sad.

The LC-130's of the NYANG are still using JATO.

Whistler is right.....I remember seeing a C-130 at the Springbank airport just west of Calgary do a JATO takeoff at a 1975 airshow.

The thing almost went straight up........it was amazing......and loud.
