C-5 At CHC NZ

Wed Jul 18, 2001 7:56 am

I was out at the airport and saw a C-5 from travis AFB and was wondering why it was here in the winter time?
It can't be here for the mid winter drop as that is the domain of the C-141

Maybe so, but with the number of C-141s dwindling, the C-5s could be picking up the slack.

There was no tanker there just the C-5 and I haven't notice any large items in the holding area waiting to go down to the ice.
and why not use the C-17 on the mid winter drop?

The C-17 are overtasked right now. And what's wrong with using a C-5?

Nothing is wrong with the C-5 but I was surprise to see one at this time of the year.

Also I like all the heavy transports that the AMC uses, as they add a bit of variety to CHC.

Redskin,

I've spent over 12 years in the airlift world and all my love for the "heavies" comes from experience. Geez, everybody loves the fighter, bomber, and recon aircraft. Without the transports or tankers, they couldn't do their jobs effectively.

Long live military airlift!!!

I agree with mikeN that transports are the best cause with out them the other aspects of the miltary would be unable to function very well.

Don't you think it's a little pretentious to bash the heavies on a website called airliners.net? Haven't seen to many Quantas F-18's lately, have you?

P.S. Right now the March '141C's are officially doing the ice run while McChord gets gen’ed up on the Barney.
