German MiG-29 In Switzerland & Air Display Payerne

Sun Apr 21, 2002 5:51 am

I have heard that six MiG-29 of the german Luftwaffe are from the 17 to the end of the month in Switzerland. They are based in Dübendorf (Zürich) during that time. If anybody can give me more informations about this event i will be very happy.

One other thing, there will be a military air display in Payerne this friday (26 April). It's a great opportunity for military aircrafts spotters, because as it is not a civil airshow, the jets fly over the spectators and are most of the time really close to the public. There will be (if it is like the previous time) four F/A-18, one Super Puma or one Cougar, four F-5E/F Tiger II, the "Patrouille Suisse", the PC-7 Team, some AS-316 Allouette III, some PC-6 turbo porter (paratroops) and two Mirage IIIRS that will make a low altitude high speed flight over the spectators. For more informations about this event go here : http://www.vbs.admin.ch/internet/LW/f/news/news02.htm

Please excuse my poor english

Greetings, F. Breit.

I visited Duebendorf last tuesday, perfect blue sky and almost unlimited visibility ( the Alps were clearly visible due to 'Foehn', a weather phenomena). The MIGs started their day with a 4 versus 4 against the Swiss F-18 Hornets, followed by a second mission 2 versus 2. After lunchbreak a solo MIG 29 took off and later in the afternoon there was another 4 versus 4 mission flown. According to the local spotters and their scanner radios the average 'kill' ratio was about 4 to 1 in favour of the Swiss F-18 Hornets! Additionally the Swiss F-5s were very active but they didn't fly any missions with the MIGs. After the problems with the server at airliners.net will be solved I'll try to upload some pictures I took. Ciao Blackbird1
I'd rather be flying!

unfortunately the weather was not very good for the Payerne open doors.
But nonetheless I have taken some photos that came out not that bad. If you are interested:
Includes some photos of a formation fly-by by a german MiG-29 and a swiss F/A-18, too.
