Brazilian Air Force´s New Fighter

Mon May 06, 2002 10:03 am

Folks, on the last few weeks, the Brazilian FX selection got HOT.

The United States offer:
F-16C/D Block 50+ aircraft with either the F100-PW-229 or F110-GE-129 engine and :

-- APG-68(V)9 FMS radars,
-- LANTIRN Targeting Pods (FMS variant),
-- LANTIRN Navigation Pods with Terrain Following Radar (TFR),
-- AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and AMRAAM training missiles,
-- LAU-129 launchers,
-- AN/ALQ-131Countermeasures,
-- LANTIRN Night Vision Goggle compatible cockpits, the capability to employ a wide variety of munitions, support equipment, software development/integration, modification kits, spares and repair parts, flight test instrumentation, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical and logistics personnel services, and other related requirements to ensure full program supportability.

Also, M1(A1?) tanks and AH-1 Cobra helicopters are being offered, almost for free.

Russian offer:

Su-35 with latest AL-31F engine with TVC, sidestick, technology solutions tested on the S-37 Berkut, AESA N011M radar and possibility of installation of ANY occidental equipment with no additional cost. And any conventional armament (non-nuclear) weapon we want.

All of this is backed by total support to the Brazilian Space Program and to Brazilian aspirations to the UN Security Council (the French are also willing to offer this). Also, T-90 tanks, SS-300 SAM missiles and attack helicopters at a very inviting price.

The MiG-29 offer is probably also backed by the same goodies, but the Su-35 is very superior.

The French are offering the Mirage 2000BR (lot’s of Rafale avionics, RDY-2 radar and more thrust), and that’s it.

The Gripen offer is yet to be revealed.

Later this month the winner will be announced.
