Comox Gets First CH-149 Cormorant

Sat Jul 27, 2002 12:23 pm

Just heard on CBC that Comox AFB got the first batch of Cormorant helos to replace aging S&R fleet. It's about time!

Is Comox the base in BC north of Victoria? If so is the museum there worth a visit? (if you know...)

Let's hope they follow up and replace the Sea Kings with ASW EH-101's, and never mind the embarrassment of cancelling the original order in 1993.
Some utility versions for supporting Canadian ground forces wouldn't be a bad idea either.

How much are you going to be overpaying for them, compared to what the original pre-cancelation price was.

2912n, Comox is indeed the AFB north of Victoria. I don't know anything about the museum though. I agree it was a bad decision to cancel the original EH-101 deal . Canada's present SAR fleet was spending more time in the shop than in the air and there were several well publicized crashes. It's sad to see that Canada is not serious about it's military. If this continues, it wouldn't be surprising to see US or NATO bases IN Canada because Canada can't defend her own.

I do not know if the museum at Comox is worth a visit, but I know that the strip club in the Courtney Hotel was magnificent! And they would not allow tipping! My last visit was in the late 1980's, but if it is still in operation it is a must see.

I can convince my wife to go along to an airplane museum....I don't think, even being the good sport that she is, that I could talk her into a strip club!!  Smile
